N o magazine has ever told my story. Now I’m writing it for T h e K in g ’ s B usiness . I have told my story to service clubs and other groups (including 125 Jewish men who were having a beer party at a Southern California brewery). At first I was rather amazed at the friendly way my story was re ceived. It isn’t c a l c u l a t e d to be entertainment. It’s just the story of a middle-aged businessman who was a professional gambler until he had a very personal encounter with Christianity. It was this en counter that caused a major revolu tion in my life. Here’s the story. For many years as a professional card and dice shark I operated over a wide section of the United States and Canada. A gun was a part of my equipment. We didn’t want trouble, but when trouble came we were prepared to meet it. As I look back over my life some of the situations I found myself in were unbelievable. Every thought was centered in my own welfare only, and I did not care what I had to do to satisfy myself. Money came and went easy. Gambling

a living was a dummy. I called them “working stiffs.” I took a certain pride in my pro fession. I determined to master every technique. I practiced hun dreds of hours on just one move. I became very proficient at dealing off the bottom of the deck, dealing second, stacking the cards, and then I developed many ways to cheat that were my own creation. One of these unusual things was switching an entire deck into a game. A man who was dealing the cards would set the deck in front of me to cut and I would switch in another deck, all stacked, and hand it to him. The results were of course disastrous to the other play ers. They all got a wonderful hand but I always had one just a little better. A couple of years ago I was on a national television show twice. The second time I showed this switch. I purposely did it slow so I could watch the film when we played it afterward. I could not see myself make that switch. The first time I was on this show I gave a dice expose. I also played those films back and even in slow motion

offered the eas i es t way to make money for there was not too much clash with the law. But sometimes the boys found gambling a little slow, and then they would take a short cut and get it in some other entirely illegal way. My pattern of life was set. My thinking was fixed. I thought everyone who worked for About the Author Paul Ebling now manufactures and dis tributes his own product, “ Fam ily Food Supplement ” ( vitamins and minerals). Mr. Ebling went into this business because he felt that Christian workers particularly needed such a product to help them in their rigorous schedules. Because he felt the existing high quality products were priced beyond the reach of most of them, he decided to market his product at the lowest possible price through Christian distributors. The profits which he does make are dedicated to the Lord’s service. Because of his interest in foreign missions he recently made provision for sending his product to missionaries at cost price. A t last report Ebling still had openings for Christian people who want to supplement their income b y making his product avail able to friends.
