T he general flew into a rage. “What does he mean? I am to bathe seven times in that muddy creek! There are clean sparkling streams in Damascus. Why not bathe in one of those? Seven times, did he say? One would have been too many and he demands seven times. I expected him to come out and raise his hands to heaven and implore his God to heal me and then place his hands on the leprous spot and make it clean, natural flesh.” King Naaman swung his chariot around and started to leave. But his servant stopped him. “ If the prophet had asked you to do something great you would have done it, wouldn’t you ?” The general understood. He sprang from his chariot and waded into the stream. Seven times he went down as the prophet had directed. When he came out after the seventh dip, the leprosy was gone. He was healed! Two men sat in earnest conver sation. One was asking serious ques tions about the new teachings of the other. The Teacher turned to the in quirer and said, “ Nicodemus, you must be born again to have eternal life.” Yes, that is what He said, “ you must be born aagin.” What a star tling statement! It seemed quite im possible to the inquirer. How could a mature, grown man be born again ? Jesus amplified His statement by saying, “ Born of the Spirit.” It was nothing less than this. Two business men were engaged in serious conversation. One with a Christian who was concerned about the other’s eternal destiny. After some discussion, there was a pause. The Christian continued, “ To be come a Christian, a person must be lieve on Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. That means that Jesus, the Son of God, suffered and died on a cross for our sins, that He rose from the grave and is our living Lord and Saviour. He died for your sins and will save you if you believe and place your trust in Him.” No less than all that! God’s Word says, “ Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (as your personal Saviour from sin and receive Him into your life) and thou shalt be saved,” This is God’s formula for salva tion from sin and for eternal life. No less than this. It is God’s way.
