Employment Limited work study employment on campus is available to students who can demonstrate financial need. Under this program federal funds pay 80% of a student's wages, while the college pays the remaining 20%. Wages paid to students in the work study program vary according to the student's qualifications and duties performed. A student may work up to forty hours per week under work study. The college maintains an employment office for the benefit of students needing part-time work to defray expenses. While this office does not guarantee employment, it does make an effort to place every student desiring work. Jobs are available, both on and off-campus, according to student's ability, capacity to handle the added burden of employment, and financial need. Normally, a student can expect to earn $600 to $1200 per year part-time . The student who finds it necessary to work for the entire amount of his living expenses should plan to extend the time required for his course of study and to reduce his academic load. Other Types of Aid Biola College is authorized as an institution to grant benefits to veterans and dependents of veterans , social security benefits, a~d assistance from the California Rehabilitation Program. Students interested in this type of aid should contact the admissions office. If an applicant is a non-California resident but a resident of the United States, he may obtain a loan through his state's Higher Education Loan Program, by contacting a participating bank in his home area. If his state participates in the FISL program, he may contact the bank in his community. Student Services In Student Services, all functions are related to assisting the student develop to his fullest potential. It is recognized that education does not take place exclusively in the classroom; therefore, Biola attempts to aid the student by providing necessary services in areas other than academic. All matters relating to housing, health services, financial aid, career planning, graduate placement, discipline, advisement to student organizations and student publications, campus activities , new student orientation, counseling and testing, and research relating to students at Biola are the responsibility of the Dean of Student Affairs. COUNSELING SERVICES The Counseling Center provides numerous counseling services. Individual personnel counseling as well as group , pre-engagement, premarital preparation and marital counseling are available for a modest administrative fee. Personality testing and evaluation are available.
LEARNING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) provides individual and small group programs in academic skills development, as well as regularly scheduled seminars on topics related to success in college work. These services are free to all students. Tutoring services are also offered through the LAP, for a modest fee . RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS All unmarried freshmen , sophomores, and juniors under 22 years of age not living with their parents are expected to live in the residence halls if they are enrolled for ten (10) units or more. Seniors and postgraduate students may live in the residences on a space available basis. Requests for exceptions are to be directed in writing to the Director of Housing. This policy is subject to periodic review in light of current student need and college housing policy. THE RESIDENCE HALLS Rooms accommodate two students and are equipped with individual study desks , single beds, and individual wardrobe closets and chest of drawers. Each residence hall has laundry rooms equipped with metered washing machines and dryers. Students are expected to supply their own linens (sheets, pillow cases, and towels) , blankets , pillow, bedspreads, and electric irons. No cooking equipment is allowed in the residence hall rooms. Each residence hall unit is supervised by a qualified residence staff. All students living in the residence halls take their meals in the college cafeteria. HOUSING RESERVATION All accepted applicants will be sent a housing information card with the notice of acceptance which must be filled out and returned by all who plan to enroll. However, those who desire on-campus housing must remit also a $50.00 room reservation deposit in addition to the $50.00 enrollment deposit. No room can be reserved without this deposit. Applicants who have paid the $50.00 room reservation deposit and are unable to enroll may request a refund of this deposit if Biola College has been notified prior to July 31 that the applicant will be unable to enroll for the fall semester or prior to December 31 for the spring semester. Failure to notify Biola by the designated dates will result in forfeiture of the deposit. CONTINUING STUDENTS: PROCEDURE FOR RESERVING CAMPUS HOUSING Continuing students desiring to reserve on-campus housing for the fall must sign up for the room of their choice according to the reservation schedule in the spring. COMMUTER STUDENTS The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs seeks to meet the
