Talbot Theological Seminary offers graduate programs designed to equip individuals for Christian Ministry. It is a purpose of the seminary to provide its students with the best in theological education in order that they may be adequately prepared to preach and teach the Word of God in their respective fields of endeavor. Talbot Theological Seminary is committed to a wholistic approach to ministry and therefore lays stress on such diverse areas as; theological and practical training, academic and professional skills, Biblical and related secular studies, and spiritual and personal growth . Programs vary according to the vocational objectives of the seminarian; ranging from the three-year Master of Divinity to the two-year Master of Arts degrees. There are also two post-graduate programs; the Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry. DEGREE PROGRAMS: Master of Divinity. The M. Div. , the standard pastoral degree, is designed to provide the essential preparation necessary for most phases of "professional" Christian ministry, whether in this country or abroad, where an expository ministry of the Word of God is a key element It is also a foundational degree for those who wish to teach in the theological disciplines on the collegiate or graduate level. Academic qualifications for admission to the M. Div. program include the baccalaureate degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.6 on a 4.0 scale, (provision may be made for probationary admission when below 2.6). Educationally the three year M. Div. attempts to balance the tools for an accurate knowledge of the Word of God with basic skills required to minister the Word effectively to this generation. Program reductions are available for qualifi ed graduates of Biola and other approved Christian colleges. The normal degree requirement of 96-98 units may be reduced by as much as 12 units , so that the M. Div. may be awarded upon the completion of 84-86 units for certain qualified students. See the Talbot catalog for details. Master of Arts in Christian Education. The M.A.C.E. provides the professional background necessary to minister primarily in the role of a facilitator in such vocations as: Minister of Christian Education; Ministry to Children, Youth or Adults; counseling and family ministries within the church; Christian camp administration; and various parachurch ministries such as Christian Schools, publishing houses and youth agencies. Academic qualifications for admission to the M.A.C.E. program include the baccalaureate degree with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.6, (provision may be made for probationary admission when below 2.6). While the standard M.A.C.E. curriculum requires two years (68 units) of study, program reductions on two levels are available for qualified graduates of Biola and other approved Christian colleges: (1) For applicants with 8-30 undergraduate units in Biblical/theological studies and/ or Christian Education program reductions are possible; pro-rated up to a maximum of 18 units in either area. (2) Graduation requirements may be satisifed in 36 semester units for qualified students who have: (a) 30 undergraduate units in Christian Education; (b) 30 units in Biblical/theological studies; (c) a G.P.A. of 3.0 in the C.E. major; and (d) a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.6. Master of Arts in Biblical Studies , Master of Arts in Theological Studies. These specialized M.A. programs are designed for individuals whose calling to Christian service is not primarily in the area of professional ministry. These programs provide a Biblical or theological background in preparation for service in such areas as: (1) teaching in non-theological fields; (2) " lay" leadership in the local church; (3) other essentia lly " lay" ministries such as counselors, church administrators and missionary support personnel. Within the scope of the program the student will select one of four emphases: Bible Exposition , Old Testament, Ne,v Testament or Theological Studies. For admission , the applicant must have a baccalaureate degree with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3 .0. These programs are structured with a two-year curriculum, although graduates of Biola or other approved Christian colleges may qualify for a program reduction up to a maximum of 30 units based on undergraduate studies and an evaluation for competency. In effect, certain qualified students may earn the M.A. with a minimum 32 unit program. Master of Arts in Missions. The M.A. in Missions is designed for individuals who are already in an intercultural missionary situation , providing academic updating and a graduate degree for furloughing missionaries , nationals and missionary support personnel. Admission requirements include the baccalaureate degree with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.6 and at least two years of intercultural experience. While the basic curriculum requires two years for completion, a program reduction up to a maximum of 30 units may be granted to qualified applicants based on undergraduate study and an evaluation for competency . In the Biblical area a maximum of 18 units may be reduced, while 12 may be reduced in the area of social science and missions.
