Master of Arts in Ministry. The M.A. in Ministry is designed for individuals who have been in ministry for a significant number of years and have not had the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree. The program focuses on Biblical and practical studies which will enhance the students' knowledge of the Word of God as well as ministry and communication skills. Qualified applicants should be age 35 or older, have completed 5 years of active ministry, be serving currently in an official capacity on a church staff and have completed approximately two years of collegiate level study. This is a two year program based on full-time study, but the curriculum is also structured for a normal " half-time" study lead with courses available either in evenings or days for the students involved. Courses are available at the La Mirada Campus, Los Angeles Extension Center and the Valley Extension Center. Master of Theology. The Th.M. is designed to provide the opportunity for advanced specialized study in some area of theological learning. The degree is usually recognized as basic preparation for teaching and research in the theological disciplines. Admission requirements include the completed M. Div. degree with a graduate G.P.A. of 3.24, with specified graduate study in Greek and Hebrew. The program, consisting of 26 units of postgraduate study and a thesis , may be taken in one of several majors. Doctor of Ministry. The D. Min. is the highest professional degree for ordained persons in the parish or related ministries. It is distinct from the Th.M., Th.D. or Ph.D. in that its primary emphasis is on the practice of ministry rather than on research and teaching. This program builds upon the basic theological degree, the M. Div. , and integrates theological education in the context of ministry by requiring high levels of competence in one of two available fields of concentration: Church leadership or Marriage and Family Ministries. Admission requirements include the completed M. Div. degree with a graduate G.P.A. of 3 .0, a minimum of two years of full-time ministry experience after completion of the M. Div., a working knowledge of both Greek and Hebrew, and a high standard of overall performance in practice of ministry. The basic residency requirement includes six courses of study, four in the field of concentration. The courses are offered in two-week sessions during January, May, June and July, with significant preparatory reading assignments and a follow-up project at the conclusion of the classroom experience. A dissertation is also required.
