S hould we worship on Saturday instead of Sunday? Are Ameri­ cans really Israelites? Is it sinful to celebrate Christmas? Shou ld we change our eating habits? Are all churches preaching lies except Her­ bert W. Armstrong’s Radio Church of God? These were a few of the questions that raced through my mind and de­ manded answers when I became in­ terested in the dynamic radio preach­ ing of Armstrong. I first became interested in Her­ bert Armstrong when some friends left their church and began to fol­ low his teachings. I became a regu­ lar listener to “ The World Tomor­ row,” as he titles his broadcast, and I waited eagerly each issue of The Plain Truth magazine. Religion had not held much inter­ est for me in the past. Most of the religious matters o f our family had been left to Ruth, my wife. She had attended church since she was a child and was now taking our three children, Rosalyn, Gary, and Michele, to the River Bend Bible Church, a mission church which meets in a schoolhouse near our home. As the weeks passed and my in­ terest in Armstrongism increased, I began to see that there were seri­ ous conflicts between the teaching my family was receiving at the church and that which was persua­ sively presented on Armstrong’s broadcast and in his literature.
