The Law Apprenticeships Guide 2027

Meet the apprentice

Shreya Bhogaita (she/her) Mayer Brown International LLP Shreya Bhogaita is a solicitor apprentice at Mayer Brown International LLP. She’s currently sitting in the construction litigation team.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I chose the apprenticeship path after college because I wanted to gain practical experience from the outset. I prefer a mix of theoretical and hands-on learning, and the apprenticeship scheme offers this. I was also attracted to earning a salary and avoiding debt on the route to qualification.

What’s a typical day at work like?

A typical day begins with reviewing my inbox, noting anything urgent and checking for updates on ongoing tasks. I’ll then check my calendar to plan my day. That said, no two days are the same, which keeps work varied and exciting. I’m currently working on an arbitration, which involves running meetings with counsel and experts, as well as attending the hearing. There’s often a steady flow of work requests and it’s rewarding to watch the work I assisted with being used in evidence. I also value Mayer Brown’s culture; people are friendly and happy to get a coffee, which creates a positive environment.

What’s the qualification process like?

The apprenticeship is a six-year programme. In my fifth year, I’ll sit the SQE as my end-point assessment, which I must pass to qualify as a solicitor.
