continued to do and teach through the ministry of the Holy Spirit and the devoted followers of Christ. The one account is incomplete without the other. A Missionary Companion Acts 16:1-6 It is apparent that at this point in the second missionary journey of Paul Luke joined the party. We are told that at Troas a vision appeared to Paul indicating that Macedonia should be the next place of ministry (vv. 8, 9). Doors had been closed to other parts of Asia Minor (w . 6, 7). Then in v. 10 we find the pronouns “we” and “us” indicating that Luke, the writer of the account, had cast in his lot with the great mis sionary enterprise. From this time to the very end of Paul’s life Luke is definitely associated with Paul in his gospel ministry. He saw the need of an unevangelized world and responded to it. A Loyal Friend Col. 4:14; 2 Tim. 4:11 A more beautiful loyalty is not to be found in the Scriptures. To the very end Luke remained by the side of Paul to aid him in every possible way. In like manner all Christians ought to be loyal to those who stand for the faith. Helps for the Children Luke’s Story of Jesus Luke 1:1-4; Acts 1:1, 2; Col. 4:14 Memory Verse: “ It seemed good to me . . . to write. . . that thou mightest know the certainty o f those things wherein thou hast been instruct ed” (Luke 1:3, 4). Luke was a busy doctor. He might have said that he was much too busy to give any time to the work of his Lord. Instead, Luke spent many hours writing one of the four gospels which tell us of our Saviour. In his story we find many stories, such as the Christmas story, that we do not find in the other gospels. He also wrote the book of Acts and was a helpful companion to the missionary Paul on many of his difficult journeys. So faithful was he in the Lord’s work that Paul called Luke “the beloved physician.” Some mothers and fathers, and even some boys and girls, say that they are “ too busy” to go to Sunday school and church and prayer meeting, or they are too busy to read God’s Word and pray, or too busy to sing in the choir or to teach a Sunday school class. Those who have truly given themselves completely to the Lord Jesus Christ know that they can be happy and satisfied only if they are constantly busy in His service. They will know that only those things which they do for Him will last for eternity. He has saved us that we might be ever busy serving Him wherever He shall choose. Unless our time, our money, our talents, our bodies are His every mo ment, we are not the kind of Christians that will honor Him and that will cause others to want to know Him too.
