Designated AI Compliance Officer
The [Chief Public Defender / Managing Partner / Executive Director] shall designate an AI Compliance Officer to serve as the primary point of contact for AI-related questions, coordinate training efforts, maintain records of approved tools, and report to the AI Policy Committee on compliance matters. D. Role Assignments
The following roles and responsibilities are assigned under this Policy:
{ Supervisory Attorneys: Responsible for ensuring compliance among subordinates, approving AI use in sensitive matters, and periodically reviewing AI-assisted work product to “spot-check” its use; { Individual Attorneys: Responsible for complying with this Policy, verifying all AI outputs, and maintaining professional responsibility for all work product; { Support Staff: Responsible for using only approved AI tools for authorized purposes and promptly reporting any concerns to supervisors; { IT Personnel: Responsible for implementing technical safeguards, maintaining security of AI systems, and supporting the AI Policy Committee in evaluating tools.
III. DEFINITIONS
Artificial Intelligence (AI): Computer systems designed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, including learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and natural language processing.
Generative AI (GenAI): AI systems capable of generating text, images, code, or other content in response to prompts, including large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and similar tools.
Approved AI Tool: An AI tool that has been reviewed and authorized for use by [Organization Name] in accordance with this Policy.
