Campus in an Orange Grove
T he biggest news in Christian education this month was coming from California. After nearly 50 years in two 13-story, office-type buildings in the heart of big, booming Los Angeles the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles announced a forthcoming move to a roomy, 30- acre campus. B i o l a ’ s new campus is in the center o f an orange grove, in La Mirada, a short 25-minutes by free way (south) from the present location. The photos on these pages show some o f the initial units (cost about 2 /z million) that will accommodate 1,500 students. From classrooms to dorms to library the new campus features the most up-to-date design o f any college o f its type in America. For old-timers who were on hand for B i o l a ’ s found ing back in 1908 this month’s news brought a warm sense o f satisfaction. It was proof that their faith had not been misdirected. Some had doubted if the West could sup port such an enterprise. Today Christian leaders were scrambling to keep up with the demands o f the burgeon ing population along the Pacific coast. And officials at B i o l a were making sure their school would be ready to meet the need.
Present Biola buildings were completed in 1915, were gift of brothers Lyman and Milton Stewart. Lyman was the founder of big Union Oil Company.
