Howard S. Bush, Sr. 1926–2018 Cleveland, OH Businessman

as an active member of the Cleveland Counsel on World Affairs. He served as the Scout Master for the Boy Scout Troop at Antioch Baptist Church for many years. A longtime member of the Cleveland (OH) Alumni Chapter and sat on the board of Kappa Housing "Two" building near Shaker Square. He was also part of an investor group (including his friend Judge George White and brother-in-law William Hall) that bought a 9-hole, par 3 golf course in Lodi, OH. Brother Howard Bush was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hollie Mae Bush, daughter Jocelyn Phillippa Taylor, and siblings Eileen Friend, Lila Hardin, and Lawrence Clint Bush, Sr. He is survived by son Howard S. Bush, Jr. (Angie Bush), son-in-law Stanley Taylor, grandchildren Jordyn Bush, Taylor Bush, Isaac Bush, Logan Taylor, and Cameron Taylor, siblings Virginia Hall, Roxanna Woodley, Marilyn Banks, John Bush and Leslie Bush, raised as a daughter Ernestine Evans and a host of relatives and friends. retired from KeyBank ® after 35 years of service. In his retirement years, he worked at the South Bend Heritage Foundation and at the University of Notre Dame. Affiliated with the South Bend (IN) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi ® , Byrd also held memberships in the 100 Black Men of Greater South Bend, Inc., and the South Bend Par Putters Golf Club. In addition, he was one of the founding members of the African American Community Fund established by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County. He earned his pilot license, was inter- ested in photography, and was a former member of the. He enjoyed reading, relaxing at Diamond Lake, watching sports, going to the shooting range, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Brother Byrd was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Marion Byrd; and a brother, Edwin Byrd. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Roz Byrd; son, Darran Teamor; daughter-in-law, Yolanda Teamor; his two grandchildren, Ashley and Cameron Teamor; three brothers, Anthony (Kathy), Leo Kevin (Rosece- dar), and Robert; and his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and Dr. Harold Childs 1942–2017 Veteran, Businessman Dr. Harold Childs

Howard Sumner Bush, Sr. entered the Chapter Invisible on Sunday

evening, March 18, 2018 at the age of 91 due to complications from colon cancer at the Heroes Harbor Hospice, Louis Stokes Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. Brother Bush was a 1953 initiate of the Cleveland (OH) State University Chapter, the Alpha Omega of Kappa Alpha Psi®. He was the first of nine children born to Charles Sumner Bush and Anna Frances Brown on August 22, 1926 in Wellsville, OH. Bush grew up during the Depres- sion and, as a result, was instilled with a sense of independence and resilience. As a teenager, he worked on the Penn- sylvania Railroad during summers school vacations. He graduated from high school in three years and went to serve in the U.S. Army as an engineer from 1945-1946 during World War II. After the war, he enrolled and graduated from Ohio Valley Business College. Professionally, Bush worked at the Cleveland Federal Savings and Loan. He also worked as a Small Business Representative with the Department of Human Resources & Economic Devel- opment for the City of Cleveland and for Premier Auto Ware as a financial analyst. Additionally, he was awarded a contract to manage a license bureau for the state of Ohio and managed an Allstate agency. He loved building homes, restoring cars, and helping his siblings with household repairs. He owned several two-family rental homes and refurbished them to provide decent housing in low-income areas. Bush was a member of the Karamu Quartet, sang in "Porgy & Bess" at the Cleveland Heights Theater, and served

Eugene Byrd was born on December 9, 1942, in Cassopolis, MI to Leo and Marion Byrd. He graduated from Cassopolis High School and attended Ball State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Education. He obtained his master’s degree from Indiana University. Byrd was an educator in the South Bend Community School Corporation prior to transitioning to a banking career at St. Joseph Bank and Trust Company. He
