Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario highschoolssend students on a povertyexposure trip called The D o m i n i c a n Experience to the Dominican Republic. The Student Senate is raising funds to be directed t o w a r d t h e annual salaries of two teachers in that country.

Photo Candice Vetter Former Embrun ‘72s coach Bob Richard Ànally receives his long-lost winning pendant. The pendant was found and returned by JimPoushinsky of Vernon, where it turned up when he cleaned his garage Áoor. Poushinsky contacted The News in June to ask for help in Ànding the owner. A photo and description ran in The News and several people told Richard they’d seen it. Richard was the general manager of the Embrun 72s in the early 1990s. He coached for 15 years. The 72s won the Jr. C Hockey Championship four years in a row and the pendant was from 1994-95 tournament. He also wears a matching ring from the previous year’s win. Wife Marielle made contact, and The News reported it, but Poushinsky had gone to Lake Superior for several months, returning recently. Neither man knows how it went from Perth, where Richard may have lost it on a job, to Vernon. Richard was grateful and very happywhen he shookPoushinsky’s hand. He said, “I never thought I’d see this again, I thank you from my heart.” Kin Club plans busy year

The club once again plans to help with theRussellFair,HeritageDayandChristmas Parade, and is introducing an exciting new event—a Hallowe’en home decorating contest. There will also be several ongoing events including “In Conversation With”. RUSSELL|Itwasonlyin2011thatRussell’s newest service organization, the Kin Club, started, but they’ve already undertaken many projects and have ambitious plans for 2012. They’ve participated in the Heritage Festival,RussellFairandSantaClausparade as well as had their opening charter night. One member, Helen Menzinger, has seen huge success and national attention with Kaiden’s Care Kits. The kits were originally put together by Helen and her husband, for distribution in CHEO to parents whose newborn had cystic Àbrosis. They know Àrst hand how overwhelmingbringinghomeaCFbabycan be and designed the kits to make life easier for the new parents. With Kin support the kits won the smallest funds category of the Aviva Community Challenge and the funds will be used to help supply kits to hospitals across Canada.
