flesh, not joined together by some formula of man, but by the act of God. Hence the warning is given: “What therefore God hath joined to gether, let not man put asunder.” This joining is permanent, a type of the union between Christ end the church (cf. Eph. 5:25-33). A true marriage therefore is one in which God has a vital part, uniting a man and a woman in such a bond that of “twain” there stands “ one.” e Hence the relationship is to be as t * long as life lasts, or, as the marriage- ceremony has it, “Till death do you part." m . ; | T he C ommendation (John 2:1-5) At this . wedding- in Cana, Jesus placed His commendation upon the original intent of God. concerning mar riage. It is to be noticed that this “ beginning of his signs” (v. 11, R.V.), or manifestations of the divine nature of the Son of God, touched the funda mental relationship of marriage. Possibly the “mother of Jesus was there” in some official capacity, which would account for her saying to Jesus, “ They have no wine” (v. 3). His use oi the word “woman” is in no sense disrespectful; He a d d r e s s e d His tnother in the same manner at the cross (cf. John 19:26). He could say that His “ hour” h'ad not come. That “ hour’ —the time when He would take upon Himself the sin of the world to make atonement for sinners was ever in His mind (cf. John 7:30, 8:20; 12:23; 13:1; 17:1). But that “hour” could not come until all else had failed, as the supply of wine had failed. Mary’s instruction to the servants, “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it,” holds the secret of all blessing. The condition of blessing is human 1 need—“no wine.” Man was at the end of his resources; the channel of bless ing is the obedience that springs from faith—“ do it.” And the fruit of blessing is the supernatural, suffi-' cient, and satisfying supply which only the Lord can give. Points and Problems . 1. "It is not good that the man should be alone" (Gen. 2:18). Here the Word of God lays down the great principle upon which all social life is based. For man to be alone is not' good. And it is highly significant

Matthew 19:3 The Pharisees also came unto him,, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is. it law fu l fo r a man to hut away his w ife fo r every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, F or this cause shall a man leave fath er and mother, and shall cleave to his w ife : and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 W h erefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. W hat therefore God hath joined, together, let not man put asunder. John 2:1 And the third day there was a m arriage in Cana o f Galilée; and the mother o f Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother o f Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. meet for him." The word “meet” means “ answering to him,” that is, worthy of him, equal to him, of the same nature. Among the beasts there was not one “ answering” to the man; that is, of the same nature. None of them was, or is, kin to man. Here is an answer to those who attempt to hold a belief in both the Bible and the theory o f evolution. In His own way, God made the woman. The record is plain and is to be taken literally as written. God made the woman and brought her to. the man, The man recognized she was different from all the beasts and called her by his own name: “ She shall be called Isshah, because she was taken out of Ish” (Heb., R.V. margin). What thè beasts did not have, the man
