Together Apart-(E)

(Not So) Alone in the Dark

An invisible mantle wraps the world in darkness So suddenly that its existence is questioned even once congealed

Trapping the surface with fear and panic So thick that lungs burn for a breath of air

Stifling once-untouched spaces with sheer ignorance The choice of remaining oblivious trails death in its wake And yet, do you not sense the hope that lies in the midst of a medical ward Where one manages to survive even where others lay dormant? Do you not sense the valiant determination from a lone vehicle on the road Treading out into an infected world to ensure one less belly will go hungry tonight? Do you not sense the courage from a mental health clinic Consoling the despair and nightmares that have scarred so many minds? Do you not sense the fortitude within an office Where momentous decisions are made in the midst of carnage and doubt? Do you not sense the resilience from a simple home Robbed of mobility and freedom but braving the caging-in walls to protect all the souls within? Each is a tiny flickering flame in the midst of smothering darkness And kindles in solitude amongst the deafening noise But wait Another candle flares in the distance And there Another glimmers mutely in the far depths
