The 2026 President’s Award in Art

Themes of home, national identity, and cultural perceptions and misperceptions suffuse the work of Stella Bleu Signorelli (IAA 22-26), the 2026 winner of the President’s Award in Art, which is selected by President Trey Devey in consultation with Interlochen’s visual arts faculty. Raised in Mexico by American parents, Stella says her art pulls from her “uniquely bicultural experience.” Her works, which explore, sometimes playfully, the complex relationship between the two neighboring countries she calls home, range from pen-and-ink drawings to vibrant painted landscapes. They’re intended to help residents of both nations “find a new understanding of each other,” Stella explains.

“One of (Stella’s) pieces that I found especially beautiful was a suspended collection of ceramic Monarch butterflies. These butterflies migrate thousands of miles each year. It made me reflect on the beauty of (Interlochen’s) student body, coming from all corners of the world to be here.” — President Trey Devey
