Lending a Hand to Make Interlochen Work VOLUNTEERS
Artistry flourishes at Interlochen because of the sacrifices of thousands of people—many of them volunteers, each contributing in their own way. You can easily identify one type of Interlochen volunteer by their distinctive clothing: our Green Vest Volunteers give campus tours, usher concertgoers, and plant flowers. This year, 567 volunteers donned the green vest, 87 for the first time.
Others volunteer for Interlochen by fielding phone calls during IPR pledge drives, engaging with potential students and families at nationwide outreach events, or helping sew costumes for student performances.
It takes many hands to make Interlochen work. We are deeply grateful for each.
2,000 Hours for Interlochen
It might be more concise to list the ways Dr. Ann Snyder (ICA St 17-26, IAC St 18-19) hasn’t contributed to Interlochen Center for the Arts, than to detail the myriad ways she has. A retired exercise physiology professor from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Dr. Snyder has given nearly 2,000 hours of time in more than 400 instances of volunteering at Interlochen from 2014 to present. She’s been an especially regular fixture of our campus in recent years, logging volunteer shifts dozens of times a year, whether by assisting in our dining halls, costume shop, Dennison Center, or information booth, or by ushering as a Green Vest Volunteer for our Shakespeare festival or summer-evening concerts, often staying late to welcome and direct concertgoers.
Dr. Snyder has also been a part-time employee of Interlochen for nearly a decade, working primarily in our box office in a series of roles with patron and stage services. What’s more, she is a longtime sustaining donor, with a record of generous support for the Annual Fund. Like the line-items on her Interlochen resume, Dr. Snyder’s instances of positive impact upon Interlochen’s community of artists and art-lovers are too numerous to account in full. We are deeply grateful for the volunteers like Dr. Snyder who help keep Interlochen the art-filled and heart-filled oasis it is.
