Heart to Heart love for the community

GREGG CHAMBERLAIN gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca

Theymay have been reluctant adversaries on the big screen, but in person, Anna and Else offered and receivedwarmwelcomes from their fans during a special appearance inWendover at the Heart toHeart commu- nity tradeshow. The stars of themovie Frozen were the big attraction for children at the LucienDelorme Community Centre over the Nov. 7 weekend. But they were just the “warm-up act”, so to speak, for when Santa Claus himself walked into the room for an early meet-and-greet with the children before he headed back to the North Pole to finish preparing for his annual Christmas Ride. For Christine Henley, it was all good, even if a trifle hectic weekend. “It was a good turnout,” Henley said, during a post-tradeshow phone interview. “It was the biggest event yet that I’ve held.” The Heart to Heart community tradeshow project has two goals in mind. First is to The Navan Arts & Crafts Group Le groupe des beaux arts et d'artisanat de Navan CHRISTMAS CRAFT SHOW L'EXPOSITION DE NOËL Friday Hours November 20 5 - 9 p.m. Heures du vendredi 20 novembre de 17h à 21h 1978-2015

Anna (Izabelle Paquette) reads to one of themany fans of her and her sister Else (Geneviève Sauvé), during themorning story time session at the Heart to Heart community tradeshow in Wendover. provide local home-based businesses in the Prescott-Russell region with an opportunity to promote themselves. The second is to support local community projects. The beneficiary of the Nov. 8 tradeshow is the Riceville Food Bank, and Henley is more than pleased and a little surprised, she admitted, with how successful the results were. She was a bit concerned because she could not get a permit in time to sell draw tickets for a food bank fundraiser and had to rely on donations at the door. She an- nounced with pride that almost everyone who came through the door to check out the tradeshow tables also took amoment to drop off either something for the food bank shelves or a bit of cash to help volunteers at the food bank with their re-stocking needs. About $200 worth of groceries were left at the donations table along with close to $1,200 in cash donations. “That’s almost double what we normally do,” Henley said. “I was extremely happy and surprised at the same time.”
