Don’t Miss Out on Summer Fun! Local Events in the Boston Area

BOSTON HARBORFEST

Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the sunshine! Here are a few events that can get you out to experience what summer in Boston has to offer.

The Boston Harborfest is back for its 37th year to celebrate Boston harbor and its history. The three-day event, lasting from June 29–July 1, will be filled with reenactments, Freedom Trail walks, and boat tours among many other exciting events that will take place over the weekend. Not only is this an opportunity to learn more about Boston, but it also provides an excellent incentive to get a head start in celebrating the Fourth of July. You can find the full schedule of events and even donate on their site at BostonHarborFest.com. If you enjoy hot food more than you enjoy the hot sun, then Jerkfest is definitely for you. Come down to the South End of Boston on June 22 and 23 this year for some great food and a rum tasting. The event is mostly for those aged 21-plus. The event celebrates authentic Caribbean cuisine among other international and local spicy foods. If you enjoy spicy food, you’ll be itching to get your hands on the piquant jams, nuts, and desserts that the event will offer. BOSTON JERKFEST

CORRIB 5K ROAD RACE

Every first Sunday in June for the past 25 years, the Corrib Charitable Trust has put on a road race through the streets of West Roxbury. If you’ve never been, you are missing out. It is more than just a road race — it is a full-blown community day. The race begins and ends at Billings Field on Lagrange Street. After the race, thousands (yes, thousands) of folks head to Billings Field where there’s horseback riding, bouncy houses, ice cream, and music for the kids and plenty of entertainment for the adults as well. This year’s race starts at noon on June 3. The first 500 registrants get a free t-shirt. You can sign up at CoolRunnings.com.

Don’t be afraid to get out there and enjoy the sun, your family, and good food this summer!
