As resident tutors are based on our campuses, they operate an open-door policy, making it easier for you to talk to them when you need to. SOLICITORS QUALIFYING EXAM (SQE) COURSES

BECOME A SOLICITOR

Whatever your background, however you want to study, our expert team has designed a suite of SQE courses to prepare you for your career as a solicitor, as well as SQE success. In September 2021, the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) became the new, centralised assessment for anyone who wants to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales. It will eventually replace the Legal Practice Course (LPC) route to practice.

Whether you’ve completed a law or non-law degree at undergraduate level, we have a range of postgraduate law courses which will prepare you for a career as a solicitor.

LEGAL PRACTICE COURSE (LPC)

Our career focused LPC is for law graduates or those who have passed a law conversion course. At no extra cost, we offer the option of combining this with an MSc in Law, Business and Management or an LLM in Professional Legal Practice. Even though the new SQE route began in 2021, you can still continue with the current LPC route to become a solicitor. To check your eligibility, see our handy guide here: law.ac.uk/sqe

The SQE is part of a new, four-stage route to becoming a solicitor:

• A degree (or equivalent) in any subject • Pass SQE1 and SQE2 assessments • A minimum of two years Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) • Show you are of satisfactory character and suitability Unlike the LPC, the SQE is not a course of study but an examination. However, to pass SQE1 and SQE2, you may wish to undergo a course of professional training. We’ve developed a range of SQE courses that will prepare you for a career as a solicitor, as well as SQE success.

LLM LEGAL PRACTICE (SQE1&2)

SQE2 PREPARATION COURSE This course will prepare you for the SRA’s centralised SQE2 assessments, which will test practical legal skills such as client interviewing, advocacy, legal writing, drafting and research, and case and matter analysis.

This LLM incorporates SQE1 and SQE2 training to ensure you’re fully prepared for both the SQE1 and SQE2 assessments, as well as your career as a solicitor. It also includes additional content considered highly desirable by law firms, such as key practice areas and additional modules on innovation in legal services, how to develop your professional effectiveness and understanding your clients’ needs.

SQE1 AND SQE2 EXAM PREPARATION COURSES

This course also includes four weeks guaranteed Qualifying Work Experience during your studies.

These short, intensive revision courses will ensure you’re confident and fully prepared for the SQE1 and SQE2 assessments.

SQE1 PREPARATION COURSE This course will prepare you for the SRA’s centralised SQE1 assessments, which will test functioning legal knowledge (FLK). PASS FIRST TIME OR STUDY FOR FREE We’re so confident in our SQE courses that, if you don’t pass SQE1 or SQE2, you can repeat our Exam Preparation Courses for free, as many times as you need.**

BECOME A BARRISTER WITH OUR BPC

US BAR PREPARATION COURSE Developed in partnership with Themis, one of the largest US Bar exam preparation providers, we also offer this career-enhancing course which will prepare you to pass the New York or California Bar Exam, so you can qualify as an attorney for the New York or California Bar. This course has been designed especially for non-US law graduates and lawyers by building upon your existing knowledge and developing your legal analysis and communication skills.

BAR PRACTICE COURSE (BPC)

Our BPC is for law graduates or those who have passed a law conversion course and wish to train as a barrister. Our professional training aims to help you secure an offer of pupillage and prepare you for life at the Bar.

CONVERSION COURSES Start your legal journey with our law conversion courses, the first step for non- law graduates to become successful solicitors or barristers.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN LAW (PGDL) This conversion course for non-law graduates will enable you to progress onto our LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2), SQE1 Preparation Course or Bar Practice Course (BPC).

MASTER OF ARTS IN LAW (MA LAW SQE1) This conversion course includes our SQE1 Preparation Course, which will prepare you for the SQE1 assessments. It is designed for non-law graduates who want to gain a legal qualification at Master’s level. On successful completion you can progress onto our SQE2 Preparation Course

SQE LAW ESSENTIALS This short conversion course is for non-law graduates who want an introduction into the essentials of legal knowledge required for SQE1.
