The judges’ decision came down to NUGENT’s wealth of knowledge and state-of-the-art projects that have made the contactor synonymous with excellence. According to the panel, they are setting the bar even higher for the industry. Founded in 1963, the company is now a second-generation family business with offices in Pomeroy, Belfast and Dublin. Their vast range of prestigious projects is testament to their ability not only on home soil but also across the UK and Ireland. NUGENT delivers leading-edge construction solutions across a range of key sectors, such as commercial, education, healthcare, heritage, hospitality and leisure, life sciences and residential through their Major Projects, FM and Specialist Projects divisions. NUGENT prides itself on its workforce of 100 direct employees and 300 sub-contractors, who are committed to always delivering exceptional services and exceeding clients’ expectations. Their people are the main reason for their success, and NUGENT has promoted a series of initiatives for a positive work environment and excellent work-life balance, such as a wellbeing committee that focuses on teamwork, health, communication, engagement and leadership, among other competencies.
Cameron is only in the second year of his apprenticeship but he impressed our judges with his excellent attitude towards learning and developing his skills and knowledge. His 100% attendance and the ability to always come to work prepared, set him apart from other candidates who have way more mileage behind them. According to the panel, he also shows a natural ability to lead, which is a superb attribute for his career ahead. Cameron has won the SERC Intercampus Competition, beating top students from the colleges in Lisburn, Downpatrick and Ards and was nominated to compete in the CITB Electrical Skillbuild Competition for the second year running. According to his tutor at SERC, Cameron is a bright and attentive student, but what sets him apart are his competencies and application, and these attributes can take him as far as he wants to go. The apprentice has applied these attributes also at work and feels they have confidence in his ability as a valuable team member, which helps him strive to continue delivering high-quality work on each job. In his employer’s words, Cameron shows tremendous ambition and already displays a great understanding of the electrical industry. In his spare time, Cameron volunteers at his church to assist with the electrical work and sound systems, which in turn also helps develop his skills and knowledge even more.
