A NOTE OF THANKS

We hope everyone has stayed as safe and healthy as possible as we have now entered into another rise in cases and shutdown in our state. The pandemic has put many things into focus, but one of the greatest being the urgency of gratitude. We want to thank everyone for their support of MADD New Mexico and our mission throughout this incredibly difficult time. From our sponsors who still contributed financially to our volunteers who kept our livesaving work going- we cannot thank you enough. As we go into this holiday season, we know our work is not done. The Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays historically have the highest numbers of impaired driving injuries and fatalities. We are still able to serve victims and prevent crashes because of your support of our mission. We are hopeful for a positive new year where we can decrease the impact of impaired driving and work to provide full support to victims of this preventable crime. We hope you all stay safe on the roadways and enjoy time with your families in the upcoming holiday months.

MADD NM hosted its annual Walk Like MADD, presented by Parnall Law, on October 17th virtually this year on Facebook and brought walkers, families, and community partners together across state lines to raise awareness and critical funds to end drunk driving. 198 walkers with 19 teams raised over $20,000 to continue MADD New Mexico's mission to end drunk driving. A huge thank you to our sponsors, walkers, team captains, and donors for making this year's Walk Like MADD a success. A few posts from the virtual walk are below!

MADD Matters

Last year MADD Matters was a fundraising breakfast where sponsors and community partners came together to learn more about MADD New Mexico and the importance of our work to end drunk driving. We moved the event virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions, but still broadcast the importance of our mission to end drunk driving. Content went out on our Facebook page on November 19th to spread awareness of MADD's programs and services and the danger that remains with drunk and drugged driving.

December 3rd 6PM Virtual Candlelight Vigil MADD kicks off its oldest running public awareness campaign "Tie One On For Safety" to promote safe driving during the highest impaired driving fatality holidays of the year. From November 19th - January 1st, MADD encourages tying a red ribbon to your vehicle as a reminder to others to always designate a non-drinking driver so we can all make it home safely throughout the holidays. In 2018, 29% of all traffic deaths occurred from Thanksgiving Eve through New Years. Please call 505-255-2955 to have a TOOFS red ribbon mailed. We are proud to announce our partnership with Albuquerque Police Department, who tied ribbons on over 400 of their service vehicles to help spread the message in this high visibility campaign. For agencies wishing to participate, please email lindsey.valdez@madd.org or call our office.

MADD NM would like to invite you to our virtual Candlelight Vigil 2020. We will be hosting the event on our @MADDNM Facebook page on December 3rd at 6:00 PM. Join us as we honor victims and survivors and take this very special time to remember all who have been affected by drunk and drugged driving. In addition, starting December 1st through December 25th, we will be featuring a “Memory Minute” on our Facebook page as we share photos of those touched by impaired driving to remember and honor them. Although we cannot be together in-person, "from our heart to yours, never forgotten and always in our hearts"

The Apodaca Family

A heartfelt thank you to the Apodaca family for all of their help with MADD initiatives over the past several months. They lost their precious son, Messiah, in September 2014 and allowed us to share their story for our Save the Services Campaign and Walk Like MADD. They are brave story-tellers with a passion to make a difference. They believe their story has the power to affect future choices and we couldn't agree more! The poignant photo above was used in a billboard campaign in the metro area to raise awareness of the devastation caused by drunk driving. Thank you Apodaca family for your strength and help to have a future of NO MORE VICTIMS.

We hope you will join us.
