HIGHLYCOMMENDED: JHTURKINGTON& SONS – 123YORKSTREET, BELFAST
Mascott Construction (Europe) was crowned winner of the Multiple Occupancy Award for their impressive work on the luxury FX Building in Belfast City Centre. The judges complimented the sense of space within the building, which has a relatively small footprint and accommodates 33 apartments over 14 storeys. This was achieved through clever design features and thoughtful use of the available space. The confined site, located within the city centre brought challenges to the build particularly with regards to materials deliveries, parking and material storage. However, careful planning minimised disruption and disturbance to local residents and businesses.
JH Turkington & Sons were Highly Commended in the Multiple Occupancy Award category for their student accommodation project at 123 York Street in Belfast. The new development consists of 407 bedrooms, providing high standard student accommodation near the University of Ulster Belfast Campus. The judges noted that this entry struck a balance between the need for durability and quality for its users and delivered a functional, comfortable and secure space with a high quality finish. The judges were also impressed by the commitment of the delivery team and their understanding of the needs and demands of the end-user.
The judges agreed the development sets a very high standard for future city centre residential developments.
