Quadra Consulting Ltd What did Quadra Consulting do to assist DPW achieve the ISO? Eamonn Connolly, Business Development Manager, Quadra Consulting: We first of all carried out a ‘gap analysis’. This enabled us to understand DPW’s existing processes and associated documentation and to assess how closely this aligned with the requirements of ISO 44001. Having completed this stage, we were able to develop a project plan and identify the key project deliverables and milestones. We then worked closely with DPW to develop a CBRM system in line with the requirements of ISO 44001. This included development of the associated documentation and also working with DPW to enhance their understanding of the evidence required to address the requirements of the standard. Following their implementation, we carried out a set of internal audits, reviewed any outstanding actions and facilitated a management review. This enabled DPW to be perfectly placed for external audit and subsequent certification. NIB: What were your key findings that made the greatest impact on DPW’s CBRM system? EC: Implementation of ISO standards can be a daunting task at the start of any project, With our extensive experience of implementing ISO standards we were able to provide DPWwith specific, targeted advice to ensure that the journey towards ISO 44001 certification was smooth and that certification could be achieved by the agreed target date. It was clear that DPW had robust policies and procedures in place in relation to project management and delivery, However, these needed to be reviewed and updated to more closely align with the requirements of ISO 44001. Our focus was on working with DPW to develop controls and evidence, which enabled them to continue to demonstrate clearly that their processes

across a couple of weeks in June 2021. The established CBRMS was reviewed to ensure all mandatory elements of the standard were addressed, and the auditor gained an understanding of the business relationships within scope and the benefits that DPW hoped to gain both for itself and its partners. Given the high level of conformity observed, certification was registered within the next working week. NIB: What were your key findings following the audit of DWP’s CRBMS? TD: DPW is one of just a handful of construction firms in Northern Ireland to have sought certification against this standard. Achieving certification against the requirements of ISO 44001 is a clear indicator that the company is a mature construction organisation, prepared to evaluate and identify where external organisations can both add value and help them deliver their products and services, exchanging knowledge, resources, energy and enthusiasm for joint objectives. SCS is a UKAS accredited Certification Body with HQ in Lisburn and offices in Liverpool. “The benefits inworkingwith a local consultant and certification body…was an essential component in the successful attainment of ISO44001.”
