with those around them. In the case of children who are mistreated, relationships are affected by various aspects such as trust issues. Fourth, dissociation is a protective mechanism in which impulses are blocked, and ideas, feelings and memories are made distinct from the body. Fifth, social factors affect individuals through thoughts or behaviors that operate in social contexts. Subsequent experiences are deeply impacted by cultural factors that can affect the individual’s self-management and the healing process. One factor that has a negative impact on individuals suffering from this diagnosis, especially in social relationships, is shame. There are different levels of shame depending on the individual’s perception of what is accepted by those around them in relation to the experience they have gone through. People’s acceptance is not limited to family members or friends but also to authority figures (Ahyeon Lee, Hyunjung Choi, 2024). The treatment processes for the condition are limited, given that has a more diverse range of symptoms compared to PTSD. The most well- known and beneficial treatment method is psychotherapy (with sessions once or several times a week). The duration of the treatment process depends on the complexity of the trauma, the individual and genetic affiliations. The example provided in the article „Reducing Shame, Promoting Dignity: A Model for the Primary Prevention of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” (Salter & Hall, 2020) reveals that women have an increased risk of acquiring anxiety and/or depression and are more prone to CPTSD than men in the same stressful situations. The differences are related to interpersonal violence and victim blaming recurring to girls/women. In the similar way, racism and disadvantages have been linked to an increased risk of psychotic illnesses or depressive symptoms in late adolescence in immigrants or black ethnic minority communities. In conclusion, these studies show not only the relevance of a safe environment in the formative years but also the importance of a community that accepts and does not minimize experiences.
