Review what has been learned this week. Have a discussion about primary sources and what they are. As you discuss, assess student understanding and give feedback. Reteach the concepts, if needed. 2. Read the title of the article. Explain to the students that we can learn about history from primary sources. 3. Complete the activity together. Explain that you are going to be historians and learn about an event in history from a primary source. a. Show the Poster Pal activity “Asking Questions About History” to review the types of questions we can ask. (“Who?” “What?” “Where?” “When?” “How?”) b. Have the students look at the images. Give them the opportunity to discuss the images with a partner. Together, analyze the sources. As you analyze and discuss each source, reference the Poster Pal and ask the questions “Who?” “What?” “Where?” “When?” and “How?” c. Together, look at the images. Ask: i. What type of primary source is this? Is it a picture, video, letter, or object? (picture) ii. What event in history is being shown? (the Statue of Liberty being built)
