Those who signed it pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. The signers also became “wanted” men. If they were caught, the punishment for treason was death. They valued freedom so much that they were willing to risk it all by not only signing the document but then sending it to the king. How have the generations since then supported or not supported the ideal that “all men are created equal”? Share your thoughts. ● The Declaration states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” What does that mean to you?
