Essential Question: How did the United States change in the first decades following the founding of the country? Learning Objective: Students will learn about the history of the United States in order to explain the economic, geographic, political, and cultural changes that occurred during the first decades of the 1800s. “I Can” Statement: I can explain the economic, geographic, political, and cultural changes that occured in the United States during the first decades of the 1800s. Student Edition Vocabulary and Phrases: embargo: an order to stop ships from delivering goods foreign policy: the government’s guideline for business with other countries Language for Social Studies Learning: Language for Social Studies Learning includes any unbolded terms and phrases in the student edition and the teacher edition that enable student understanding.
