FWPD Receives Accreditation from Texas Police Chief’s Association On February 7, 2018, the FWPD received the official ap- proval of “Recognized” agency and is the largest depart- ment in the State of Texas to receive such an honor. The department was formally accepted into the Texas Police Chief’s Association (TPCA) Accreditation Foundation Law Enforcement Agency Best Practices Recognition Pro- gram in December 2016. The program is a voluntary pro- cess where police agencies in Texas prove their compli- ance with 168 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practic- es. The best practices were carefully developed by Texas law enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service, the reduction of risk, and the protection of individual’s rights. Being “Recognized” means that the agency has proven that it meets or exceeds all of the identified best practices for Texas law enforcement. The best practices cover aspects of law enforcement operations such as use of force, pro- tection of citizen rights, pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations. The final step in the Recognition Program process was passing an onsite inspection. On January 25, 2018, four auditors from the Texas Chiefs of Police Association conducted site visits at Central Patrol Division, West Patrol Division, Training Academy, Administration, Jail, Records, Youth, Criminal Investigations, Property Room, Auto Pound, Narcotics, and Communications. Each site passed the requirements set forth by the program. The auditors even gave special recognition to the Auto Pound, Property Room, Communications, and the Train- ing Academy for a job well done.
Records Office, Other Units Move to New Location In March, the Fort Worth Police Department moved its Property and Records Management Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Community Programs Divi- sion, which includes the Youth Unit, from 350 W. The Calvert facility was reno- vated to include office space to accommodate more than 150 personnel and a records counter where customers can obtain accident and offense reports. Reports can also be obtained online at www.fortworthpd.com. The 350 W. Belknap facility was sold to Tarrant County in 2017.
First Annual Casting with Cops
The Fort Worth Police Department hosted the first Casting With Cops event at the Greenbriar Recreation Center. Neighborhood Police Officer Williams created the idea and was assisted by two Texas Game Wardens who helped make the event possible. Kids joined officers for lunch and then went fishing. Over 20 children participated and were provided new fishing poles to take home. We are waiting to hear about their big fish stories!
