School is back in session, the roads are more congested, and the rain is still falling. If this pace keeps up, we might need to start building our own ark for survival! The good news is that, so far, we have not had any major storms. Hopefully, that trend continues for the rest of hurricane season. As I say every year, it only takes one storm to ruin everything! It would certainly benefit all of us Floridians to have another quiet year. Only time will tell how El Niño impacts the rest of the season. Fingers crossed … My calendar this summer has been packed, and I have been running nonstop. Between conferences, meetings, and visits from Franklin and Noelle, I haven't had much

downtime. Looking ahead, the next few months do not appear to be slowing down anytime soon. While work has kept me busy, the extended visit from Noelle and Franklin was definitely one of the highlights of the summer. It was quite busy with new foods and new adventures, but it also reminded me that I am not as young as I used to be! But that did not stop me from getting down on the floor and crawling around playing chase with Franklin. One of my favorite things whenever he is around is holding him and getting him to fall asleep at the end of the night. That is something I do not think I will ever tire of. Now that school is back in session, Friday night lights for high school will be here before we know it, along with the start of college and professional football. I am ready for some football, no matter what level. Yes, I will be back on the sidelines again this year, working the chain gang for high school football. I will have no problem getting my steps in on Friday nights this fall! The Buccaneers are also back at practice, and the drama has shown up for training camp. First, Baker Mayfield did not get his new contract before camp began, and then Vita Vea requested a trade. That is certainly not how you want to see training camp start, with two of the team leaders unhappy and one outright asking to be traded. It should make for a very interesting season. Lastly, I am also interested to see how the new head football coach at USF fares this season. There should definitely be plenty of football to keep us entertained over the next few months. Until next month,

Feeling drained has become way too common. Busy schedules, poor sleep, and nonstop screen time can leave you running on empty before the day even ends. Energy drinks and extra coffee might offer a quick fix, but not for long. Real, lasting energy starts with simple daily habits Running on Empty? TRY THESE ENERGY BOOSTS WITHOUT THE CRASH Steady energy revolves around sleep. Getting enough rest helps your body recover, balance hormones, and recharge your brain. Most adults need 7–9 hours each night, but quality matters, too. A consistent bedtime, a cool bedroom, and less screen time before bed can make a monumental difference. INCORPORATE MORE MOVEMENT IN THE DAY. Likely the last thing you want to do when you’re tired is to hop on a treadmill or pick up the weights, but regular movement actually boosts energy over time. Physical activity improves circulation and helps oxygen move through the body more efficiently. You don’t need that support your body naturally. PRIORITIZE QUALITY SLEEP. intense workouts to feel the benefits either. A brisk walk, stretching session, or short bike ride can lift your mood and wake up your mind. CONSUME FOODS THAT FUEL YOUR BODY. What you eat directly affects how you feel. Sugary snacks and processed foods may give you a temporary boost, but they often lead to sluggishness later. Balanced meals with protein, healthy fats, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains provide more stable energy throughout the day. But don’t forget your water! Mild dehydration can leave you feeling For many of us, stress is our middle name. However, chronic stress can drain your energy. Mental exhaustion often manifests physically, leaving you feeling worn out even after resting. Taking short breaks during the day, practicing deep breathing, or spending time outdoors can help reduce stress and improve focus. Finding small ways to slow down can restore more energy than constantly pushing through fatigue. STAY CONNECTED. tired without you even realizing it. MANAGE THOSE STRESS LEVELS. Social interaction also plays a role in energy and overall well-being. Spending time with supportive friends or family can improve mood and reduce feelings of burnout. Positive connections help people feel more motivated, engaged, and emotionally refreshed.

Working from home sounds great in theory until the kids burst into your office during an important call or start arguing over snacks five minutes into the workday. Keeping children entertained while staying productive can feel impossible some days. But a little planning and creativity can make things much easier for everyone. CREATE A DAILY ROUTINE. Kids thrive on structure, especially when they know what to expect. Setting up a loose daily schedule helps reduce boredom and constant interruptions. Start the morning with breakfast, get dressed, and outline the day ahead. Include playtime, snacks, quiet activities, and outdoor breaks. A visual checklist works especially well for younger children. They’ll enjoy crossing off activities as the day goes on, and you’ll get a few uninterrupted moments to focus on work. SET UP ACTIVITY STATIONS. Rotating activity stations can keep kids engaged longer than handing them one toy box. Create small areas with different activities like coloring books, puzzles, building blocks, or sensory bins. Pull out only a few items at a time so everything feels fresh and exciting. Craft kits are another lifesaver during busy work hours! Stickers, washable markers, construction paper, and glue sticks keep little hands occupied while encouraging creativity. ENCOURAGE QUIET TIME. Every parent working from home needs at least one calm period during the day. Here’s the thing, though: Quiet time doesn’t necessarily mean naptime. Older kids can read books, listen to audiobooks, draw, or work on simple educational apps. Creating a cozy reading corner with blankets and pillows can make quiet time feel special instead of restrictive. Kids are more likely to cooperate when the activity feels fun rather than forced. LET KIDS HELP AROUND THE HOUSE. Yes, really! Children often enjoy feeling useful. Giving them age- appropriate chores keeps them busy while teaching responsibility. Younger kids can sort laundry or wipe tables, while older children might help prepare lunch or organize their rooms. Turning chores into games can make them more appealing. Set a timer and challenge your kids to clean up before the buzzer goes off. DON’T AIM FOR PERFECTION. Some days will run smoothly, and others won’t. Working from home with kids is rarely picture-perfect. A little screen time, extra snacks, or a messy living room doesn’t mean you’re failing. Finding small ways to keep children entertained while balancing work is already a win. Patience, flexibility, and realistic expectations go a long way for both parents and kids.
