Central Washington University Board of Trustees October 20, 2023 ACTION – Approval of President Wohlpart’s Evaluation (CWUP 1-10-050)

In accordance with CWUP 1-10-050 – Powers and Duties, the CWU Board of Trustees has conducted its annual evaluation of President Wohlpart. This requirement is also reflected in Section IV of the Presidential Contract (Evaluation and Contract Extension) which requires the board to “evaluate the performance of the President using such methods and criteria as the Board may determine in consultation with the President.” The Board approved performance goals on Friday, October 22, 2021, and completed their evaluation of the President for the 2022-23 academic year on Friday, July 21, 2023. The Board expressed appreciation for the collaborative and inclusive efforts that have provided direction to the university and created a sense of unity and cohesion. Many activities have been undertaken which have moved the university forward in positive and productive ways and that have advanced shared governance. Some of these activities include: These activities have provided a foundation for the university as it lives into its vision and have elevated shared governance, communication and connection, and responded to important events at the university. The Board of Trustees expressed deep gratitude for the good work President Wohlpart has done and are strongly supportive of his leadership. He has built community. He is accessible to students, faculty and staff. He has nurtured strong relationships across the university and out into the community. They look forward to working with him into the future. The Board also sees the incredible promise and possibility of Central Washington University and have requested that the President work with his Executive Leadership Team on clear accountability metrics to make certain that the university’s potential is being realized. Accountability is one of the most important methods for developing trust in an organization, and trust is the cornerstone for shifting culture and realizing vision. The Board appreciates President Wohlpart’s willingness to conduct a thorough 360 degree evaluation which included surveying key university and external constituents for their feedback on his leadership.
