Assistant Director of Estates

• In liaison with the divisions and institutes, contributing to overall risk management in the University by ensuring effective risk management procedures and protocols are developed and implemented for all aspects of the Estate, its plant and general facilities.

• Maintaining good relationships and carry out negotiations on all estate matters with funding organisations and with the statutory authorities on all planning and related matters.

• Working closely with the Crisis Management Teams, assist in the management of any major disruptive event in such a manner as to restore business critical systems as soon as possible.

• Taking overall responsibility for the control and management of all estates budgets, including to provision of regular reports.

• Working closely with the Trust to take the lead as responsible person on ensuring compliance with water safety standards and asbestos management.

• Working closely with the Trust on a joint approach to address the sustainability agenda and to ensure that this is reflected in external assessments such as “Green League Table”.

• To have responsibility for the Health, Safety and Welfare of self and others and to comply at all times with the requirement of the Health and Safety Regulations.

• To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and its amendments.

• To work in accordance with the University’s Equal Opportunities policy to eliminate unlawful discrimination in relation to employment and service delivery.

• To ensure skills are up-to-date and relevant to the role, to follow relevant University policies and professional codes and to maintain registration where this is a requirement of the role.

• To be trained in and demonstrate fair employment practices, in line with University policies.

• To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.

• Manage the Timetabling Manager to ensure an efficient utilisation of space.

• Build active networks with peers across the sector and represent the University in relevant professional bodies.
