SNC PROMOTES SAFE HUNTING PRACTICES

Anyone hunting on SNC properties must follow all hunting safety procedures to avoid accidental injury to themselves or to others. Anyone using a dog for hunting should make sure the dog wears a brightly-coloured blan- ket or T-shirt to make sure other hunters do not mistake the dog for a game animal. To apply for the SNC permit phone toll-free to 1-877-984-2947 or go to www.nation. on.ca/recreation/hunting-and-trapping. Anyone who sees a suspected poaching incident or other violation on SNC property should call toll-free to the provincial tip line at 1-877-847-7667. STATIONNEMENT HIVERNAL POUR LA PÊCHE SUR GLACE More than 13,000 acres of community forest and wetlands are under SNC manage- ment and about 8500 acress of that territory is open for limited hunting at certain times of the year provided hunters have a valid permit to be there from the SNC. The $100 permit is available to resident hunters only. First Nations residents are not required to apply for the SNC permit if they are hunting for food, social, or ceremonial reasons.. Autumn hunting season opens for various game animals and birds. The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) allows limited hunting on the lands that it manages for wildlife and waterfowl conservation and also for recreation use and flood control monitoring of the South Nation River watershed.

Les pêcheurs à la ligne de la région disposeront d’une aire de stationnement sur la route 650, près de la rivière Nation Sud, cette saison. La municipalité de la Nation confirmera une entente avec le propriétaire d’une pro- priété privée située au 983, route 650, près de Casselman, afin de fournir un espace de stationnement temporaire pendant la saison de pêche sur glace de cette année, pour quiconque veut aller pêcher sur la rivière Nation Sud adjacente. Le coût de l’entente de location pour la municipalité sera de 150 $ par mois, pour une période de trois mois. Le site de stationnement temporaire sera réservé aux véhicules et non aux cabanes de pêche sur glace. Le personnel municipal installera un panneau bilingue indiquant que tous les pêcheurs à la ligne qui utilisent l’aire de stationnement pour leurs véhicules le font à leurs propres risques, car aucune sécurité ne sera assurée sur le site contre le vandalisme ou le vol potentiel des véhicules.
