Bourget health centre wants help with a survey

that takes about 15 minutes to fill out. An evening session is scheduledThursday, Nov. 28, 6:30 p.m., at the Bourget Community Centre for anyone in the village who wants to come down and fill out the survey and help the health centre build up its contribu- tion to the database of the overall survey. Health centre staff are confident of getting the support they need. “Bourget is a very volunteer-based com-

munity,” Hébert said. The health centre has already collected 70 completed survey forms just from clients coming in for personal reasons. That alone meets the minimum number needed to confirm Bourget’s place in the overall sur- vey evaluation later on. Now health centre staff are trying to boost the number of com- pleted surveys from the village. “We’re guaranteed a report for Bourget,”

Hébert said. “But the more individuals that participate in the survey, the more repre- sentative it will be of Bourget in the (final) report.” Deadline for the health centre to send in the Bourget survey results is Dec. 15. Any- one not able to attend the Nov. 28 survey signup session can drop by the health cen- tre office at 2081 Laval Street and fill one out.

BOURGET | How healthy is the Village of Bourget? Staff at the local Centre de santé communautaire de l’Estrie would like resi- dents to help them figure that out. The centre is taking part in a pilot project of the University of Waterloo and the Ca- nadian Index of Well-Being. The two agen- cies have developed a survey based on the Gross Development Progress/Profit model for countries but which tries to measure how healthy a country is based on its social, economic, and physical health service sup- ports. “What we’re trying to do is get people’s curiosity going,” said Martin Hébert, a com- munity health worker. The centre has copies of a survey form %*0!.ŏ .%2%*#ŏ 3.*%*# Weather watch warnings about winter storms for Eastern Ontario have prompted a reminder from the OPP to drivers in the area. The first rule police say is for drivers to slow down when snow starts to settle on the roadways. The posted speed limit is the maximum suggested for traffic under per- fect road conditions during spring and sum- mer, not the icy or slippery snow-covered situations that often result during winter. Police statistics show that speed is main cause of most highway accidents during the winter. Drivers should reduce their speed and adjust their travel plans so that they leave earlier in the day when heading out. Motorists are also reminded to have their vehicle’s winter tune-up don and good win- ter tires installed. It is illegal and unsafe to drive during winter road conditions with ordinary all-season tires. Even “four-season” tires which are coming on the market do not have a deep enough tread to deal with Canadian winter driving situations in most rural areas and many cities. Keep both front and rear windows and front and rear lights clear of snow. On the road allow for more braking distance with the vehicle ahead. Police also recommend keeping a “winter road survival” kit in the vehicle. Many stores have such kits or google a winter road safe- ty website for details on what items to stock as part of a homemade kit.

The City of Ottawa wants a say in whether or not a wind farm ever set up within its rural wards and also where any such proj- ect might put down roots. Council passed a resolution asking the provincial govern- ment to amend the Green Energy Act to give municipal governments real authority or influence in deciding on the sites for any proposed wind farm projects within their territories.
