Black ink audit for school district gŏđŏ

BROCKVILLE | Upper Canada school dis- trict trustees have good reason to be pleased. Trustees reviewed the audited financial report for the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) during their Nov. 13 meet- ing. The report showed the 2012-2013 term budget plan worked out even better than expected and that the district is compliant with Ministry of Education demands. ALFRED-PLANTAGENET | Police made two traffic stops because they spotted expired licence plates and wound up with a pair of drug busts instead. Const. Jean-Alexandre Robillard-Cardi- nale was on patrol through the village of Wendover in Alfred-Plantagenet Township Oct. 25 when he pulled over a blue Mazda RX7 on Du Quai Avenue because it had an expired licence plate. He then arrested the driver, David Lalonde, 25, of Alfred, after finding a small amount of drugs in the car. Lalonde faces three drug possession

The UCDSB projected revenue figure for the term was $348,802,048 while the actual final expense sheet tallied at $348,205,830. That means a surplus of $596,218 for the Upper Canada school district for the 2012- 2013 fiscal year. Trustees also reviewed a facilities report from 2008 that projected potential savings of $52 million for the education ministry over a 25-year period from the changes that charges: possession of more than a gram of cannabis resin, possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, and possession of methamphetamines. The next day while still on patrol in the township, Const. Robillard-Cardinale pulled over a black Honda Civic on County Road 17 in Alfred village. The reason was an expired licence plate. The officer ended up arresting Jonathan Ranger, 19, of The Nation for possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana and also charging himwith driving a vehicle without a valid current permit.

the UCDSB planned with its Boundary 2020 process. The focus of Boundary 2020 was a review of district facilities, including schools and other buildings, to make them more ef- ficient and economic. The study included proposed redistribution of students from smaller schools to larger ones in their catch- ment areas or to newer buildings construct- ed as part the UCDSB capital improvements

program. The district could then use the former school buildings for other needs, in- cluding community outreach and support projects. Trustees agreed to lobby the Education Ministry again about letting the UCDSB use the projected savings expected from the Boundary 2020 program to continue mod- ernizing and upgrading the Upper Canada school system.

Hunting accidents prompt police warning

Three accidental shootings in the woods of Eastern Ontario have prompted a plea from the OPP for hunters to take more care this season. The incidents occurred in the upper part of the region and no fatalities were report- ed but police are concerned that similar “close call” accidents have happen in other

counties while the fall hunt continues. Hunters are reminded to wear their fluo- rescent red warning vests or similar bright- ly-coloured clothing while out in the woods and to take time to make sure of their target before shooting. Details on safety and current hunting rules are available at www.mnr.gov.on.ca.
