The assessment scope includes evaluation of the fire and ex- plosion hazards, safe operating ranges, identification of existing safeguards, and recommendations for additional safeguards where needed. NFPA specifically notes that the absence of previous incidents does not exempt a facil- ity from performing the dust hazard analysis. Trust us on this: they aren’t kidding around. The word “shall” appears over and over again in the code. We ex- pect these requirements to make their way into OSHA’s language, as OSHA uses NFPA as their expert source for combustible dust handling systems. Start planning now for compliance.
