Volunteer Profile: Tony Miceli From Two Bird Tony to community champion by Nicole Ramirez, Director of Programs

For many people in the San Geronimo Valley, Tony Miceli is simply “Two Bird Tony.” The nickname has endured for decades, a tribute to the Valley Two Bird restaurant he opened in 1980 and the relationships he built there over the years. More than just a local restaurant, the Valley Two Bird became a gathering place where neighbors shared meals, celebrated mile- stones, and caught up on the latest community news. Through it all, Tony became a familiar and trusted presence in the Valley. Originally from Geneseo, New York, Tony came to California in search of what he describes as “personal freedom.” He found that freedom—and a true sense of belonging—in West Marin. The San Geronimo Valley became home, where he built a successful business, raised his son Wyatt, and formed friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Although Tony sold the restaurant years ago, his connection to the commu- nity has only grown stronger. These days, instead of welcoming customers through the restaurant doors, he spends his time helping neighbors through volunteer service.

For more than four years, Tony has been a dedicated volunteer with the San Geronimo Valley Community Center Food Bank. He is often one of the first people to arrive, helping prepare for the day’s food distribution before most volunteers have even arrived. Whether unloading deliveries, mov- ing heavy boxes, sorting food, packing groceries, organizing supplies, or recycling, Tony quietly takes on whatever work needs to be done. His reliability and willingness to help have made him an invaluable member of the Food Bank team. Staff and fellow volunteers know they can count on him to step in wherever needed, always with a posi- tive attitude and a strong work ethic.

When asked why he volunteers, Tony’s answer is as humble as it is heartfelt.

“It’s the people who work there,” he says.
For Tony, volunteering is about more than completing tasks. It’s about working alongside people who care deeply about their community and making sure neighbors have access to healthy food and compas- sionate support. His motivation is simple: “I like helping when there is a need.” That straightforward philosophy has guided much of Tony’s life. He doesn’t seek recognition or praise. Instead, he believes that communities thrive when people are willing to help one another, whether through large commitments or small acts of kindness. Tony’s service extends beyond the Community Center. He also volunteers with InSpirit, helping support independent living for people with quadriplegia, and is an active member of the San Geronimo Valley Lions Club. Through each of these organizations, he continues to invest his time and energy in improv- ing the lives of others.

When asked what he loves most about living in the Valley after more than four decades, Tony doesn’t hesitate.
“The people, and the fresh air that comes over the mountains from the Pacific Ocean.”
His answer reflects the qualities that have kept him rooted here for so many years. While West Marin’s breathtaking landscape is part of its appeal, it is the people—the neighbors who look out for one another and the friendships built over time—that make it feel like home. Tony’s story is a reminder that volunteerism often begins with simply showing up. Week after week, he gives his time without fanfare, helping ensure that the Food Bank runs smoothly and that community members receive the support they need. His quiet consistency has become just as much a part of the Community Center as the weekly food distribution itself. Long after the Valley Two Bird restaurant became a cherished memory for many residents, Tony contin- ues to leave his mark on the San Geronimo Valley. Today, his legacy is measured not only by the business he built, but by the countless hours he has devoted to serving others and strengthening the community he has called home for more than forty years. The staff and Board of the San Geronimo Valley Community Center are deeply grateful for Tony’s gen- erosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping others. His example reminds us that one person, simply by showing up and lending a hand, can make a lasting difference. Thank you, Tony, for all you do to make our community stronger.
