discipleship are such that mere human love would break down before their implications. It is the appeal of the cross which, down through the ages, has enabled martyrs to give their lives at the stake. Because of it faithful men have hazarded their lives for the gospel’s sake. It is the terrific impact of this appeal which impels soldiers of the cross to wrestle with the forces of darkness, and in spite of many adversaries to fight through to the last ounce of their strength, and the last drop of their blood. Through this appeal, faithful warriors have endured persecution, opposition, hatred, misrepresentation, o stra cism , and have passed through bloody seas. Read Paul’s own experience in 2 Corinthians 11:23-29. Hearts captured by this appeal gladly place their all upon the altar, not counting the cost. The world looks on and asks, “Why this waste?” The answer to that question cannot be explained. It must be experienced. It is the inexplicable appeal of divine love. It gives birth to a compassion which loves even the unlovely, and ever lightens the hardest task. A missionary in South Africa writes, “ I have dwelt for years alone in Africa. I have been thirty times stricken with fever. I have been attacked by lions, and have been ambushed by natives. I have eaten ants. I would gladly go through the same experi ences again for the joy of teaching these people to love the Saviour who gave His life a ransom for them.” Thank God for men of that caliber! An other missionary, on being asked whether he liked his work, said, “ No, my wife and I do not like crawling into vile huts through goats* refuse. W e don’t like being asso ciated with ignorant, filthy, brutish people, but we have our orders to go, and we go.” Yes, it is the appeal of the cross. M y reader, has - this appeal found an honest response in your heart? If not, you are urged to once again “ survey the won drous cross” of our Lord Jesus Christ. Then, captured by^ “love so amazing, so divine,” you will look full into the face of your Saviour and say in the words of Ruth, “Whither, thou goest, I will g o ; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my G od : Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me” (Ruth 1:16, 17). Such a love as this is Calvary-born. It is the appeal of the cross. “When I am dying, how glad I shall be— r That the Lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.” Trinity Church In the February issue of T h e K ing ’ s B usiness reference was made to meetings held in the Trinity Methodist Church of Los Angeles of which R. P. (Bob) Shuler is the pastor. Dr. Shuler has kindly called to our attention the fact that the figures quoted in this item represented the situation unfairly. O f this result T h e K ing ’ s B usiness was quite unaware and the edi tors are glad to print Dr. Shuler’s correc tion. He writes: “ The congregation has never been as low as six hundred except on rainy nights, and is averaging at the present time some 1,500.”

WORLD’S CHRISTIAN FUNDA MENTALS ASSOCIATION [ Continued from Page 146] in June with Bruce Corbin of Guthrie, Okla., as the main speaker. Louis T . Talbot, pastor of the Church of the Open Door, Los Angeles, Calif., has been scheduled to speak as follows: March 13 to 19—Evansville Rescue Mis sion, Evansville,, Ind,;. March 20 to 26— Buffalo Gospel Center, Buffalo, N. Y .; March 27 to April 5—Harrisburg Bible Conference Circuit in Pennsylvania, and July 30 to August 7— Altoona Bible Con ference, Altoona, Pa. Alvin O. Carlson, 1625 E. Sixth St., Superior, Wis., pastor* of the First Pres byterian Church of Superior, is planning several Circuit Conferences on the plan followed by the Harrisburg Circuit, start ing April 25 in his church with a Bible and missionary conference with several speakers. Mr. Carlson is Regional Direc tor of the W orld’s Christian Fundamentals Association. During May and June George Hunter of Long Beach, Calif., and Nor man B. Harrison of Minneapolis, Minn., will be engaged for conference circuits through the region. The spring of the hope of Christ’s glory ever flows from the smitten rock of Cal vary.— S elected . motive in his letter to the church at Corinth: “The love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again” (2 Cor. 5:14, 15). T o those who have been captured by this amazing appeal, it is the only adequate principle o f spiritual living— living “ hence forth . . . UNTO H IM .” The response to this message results not primarily in the mere knowledge of forgiveness, or the assur ance of a “title clear to mansions in the skies.” He died and rose again that He might be Lord, and that in the very world that crucified Him, there might be a testi mony unto Himself. This witness is intrusted to sinners saved by grace. The appeal of the cross finds its expression in the voluntary dethronement of self and in the acknowl edged sovereignty of the Lord Jesus Christ. His love must ever constrain. But for this, Christian work in a world such as this would not be possible. The demands of true APPEAL OF THE CROSS [Continued from Page 141]
