Start of Another Half Century

T he Street Rod Nationals South celebrated its 50th Anniversary event in 2024 at the Chilhowee Park & Exposition Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Having reached a milestone to be proud of, NSRA decided it was time to ‘clear out the pipes’ and get ready to enter the second half of the century with rejuvenated excitement and surroundings. The surroundings became the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Johnson City, Tennessee, and rods and customs of every imaginable style rumbled through the front gate on May 8-9. Even before the event started, early arrivals on Thursday were invited by Charlie Hamilton, East Tennessee State Representative, to visit three local shops (Check this month’s StreetSweeper column for more). Event Registration was taken care of by Annette and Mike Harbin, Ann Rose, Ed and Michelle Chopin, Penny Knochenmuss, and Lesa Seibel. Visit Johnson City hosted a Kick-off dinner to round out Thursday. Friday morning the Appalachian surroundings came alive as the NSRA Field Force welcomed partici- pants eager to scour Dwyane Powers-organized Swap Meet, visit this year’s “Spotlight Builder”
