King's Business - 1920-06

THE K I N G ’ S B U S I NE S S . said he had one more, the youngest, who was taking care of the sheep. Samuel asked the father to send and bring the boy to him, and when the boy came in and stood before Samuel his cheeks were rosy and he was beautiful to look upon. The Lord told Samuel this was the one whom He had chosen, so Samuel poured oil upon his head and anointed him be fore his brethren. So the Lord chose this boy, whose name was David, to be king over his people Israel, instead of Saul, although David was not to be king right away until the Lord had taken Saul away. Now, boys and girls, I am going to ask you a question and if you will think real hard I think you can answer it. What do you think there was about David that made the Lord choose him for king? Yes, David was faithful even as a boy, and God knows that boys and girls that do their work well and can be trusted in the little things grow up to be faithful and trustworthy men and women, so God sees your work day by day and is pick ing out those whom He will need to put in places where He must have men and women that will do His will. Now this is a splendid place for our memory verse: “ Even a child maketh himself known by his doings.” This verse means that people can tell what kind of a boy or girl you are by the things you do. I wonder if We have been do ing things every day this past week that have shown us to be faithful and true, that is that we have done our work just the very best we could? Have we pleased God and been patient and kind in our homes, and always obeyed father and mother? We are going to remem ber that the things we do and the way we do them shows what kind of boys and girls we are. Closing Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank Thee for the story of brave and faithful David, and help us to always do the things that are pleasing to Thee,

596 told us, and after a while we will hear some more of this boy who was so faith ful in caring for his father’s sheep. Let us thank God for His loving watch and care over us. Lesson Story: Let us just look at these sheep again, and now stop and night when the little sheep were all think, and see if you can remember about some sheep that told the prophet of God how a king had disobeyed God? (Review Saul’s disobedience to God’s command, and how the bleating sheep and lowing oxen told the guilt of Saul.) We can never do anything that God does not see, and King Saul thought by doing his way instead of God’s way he would get great gain by keeping all the sheep and oxen that God had told him to destroy. It was a very great loss, for King Saul lost his kingdom that he was ruling over, and God would not al low him to be king after Saul would not do the things that God asked him to do. God wants people whom He can trust to obey Him at all times. Now God must have another king to take the place of Saul who had failed to be a good king because he did not obey God, and the Lord wanted a king whom He could trust to do His will. The Lord told Samuel, His faithful prophet, to' go to a man who had a number of sons, and that He (God) would show him which one He had chosen to be king in stead of Saul. Samuel did just as God asked him to do. (To children of pri mary age mention Bethlehem as David’s city, and Jesse as the father.) When Jesse’s oldest son came before Samuel he thought he was the one whom the Lord had chosen, but the Lord told him he was not the one. Then the father called another one of his sons, but the Lord did not choose him; the father, Jesse, had seven of his sons walk be fore Samuel. And Samuel said, The Lord has chosen none of these. Sam uel then asked the father if these were all the children he had, and the father
