BIBLE WOMEN’S WORK M rs. L ym an S tew art, Supt.— Tw enty-five W omen E ngaged in H ouse to H ouse Personal W ork, Bible C lasses and. Soul W inning Clubs. “At the Eleventh Hour” ■ N a certain Bible class taught by one of the Biblewomen there is a membership of over six hundred and it is getting to be a regular thing to have conversions every week when they convene. They are studying the Book of Daniel and each Sunday the Holy Spirit is present in His power. On one occasion, at the close of the session, the teacher called for a re sponse on the part of the unsaved and ten women came forward and accepted Christ. One woman over seventy years of age had been listening to the lesson and each Sunday the Holy Spirit had been doing His work. She said the desire came to be a Christian but she did not know how to And Christ. She was a very wealthy woman and had tried the world but that did not sat isfy and now she wanted Christ and her thought was to find Him by works. But the giving of money, doing pen ance, making sacrifices did not seem to bring peace. Praying, struggling, crying did not bring the desired re lationship between herself and Christ, but now with open Bible she caught the vision “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of your selves: it is the gift of God.” “Only accept the finished work Christ has done!” “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” “Do you believe?” the Bible woman asked, and she answered “Yes.” “When?” “Now.” “ What does He do with your sins?” “Takes them all away and now I am saved” she exclaimed, and her whole face was lighted up with His glory. And so, one by one, they entered into the fold and the bells of heaven rang out over new-born souls coming into the Kingdom. “A New Creature” A lesson was being taught in a Neighborhood Bible Class on “Abiding in Christ” and the leader was led to say “be careful of the things that ‘ap peal to you’; it is a much used phrase in the world* today, ‘this appeals to me; that does not appeal to me,’ ” Romans 8:5 was quoted“ “They that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh,” etc. One member of the class went home to meditate on the question of what really appealed most to her and came to the decision that at least one par ticular thing belonged to the classifi cation—-“the things of the flesh.” This led to what she thought was her sur render, but she was not satisfied; the longed-for peace did not follow. Mean

while the Word was being carefully taught each week in the class. Then one glad day this member gave her testimony in the opening moments that she knew now what she needed was not a “giving up” but a new birth; and a taking of the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She is really growing now and is experiencing Ro mans 8 : 6 , “To be spiritually minded is life and peace.” A further evidence of growth is her deep concern for un saved loved ones and her desire for united prayer on their behalf. “Fragrant for Christ” The past school year has been a period of blessing in the lives of many girls because of their contact with Christ in Euodia Clubs. In a certain High School the weekly meeting for Bible study has been greatly helped because of a daily meet ing for prayer by a group of earnest students in a room at the school granted them for that purpose. More than one girl whose name was brought to the Lord in this prayer room was afterward brought to the Euodia Club to listen to the Bible lesson. One of these was a girl of unusual ability because of which she was brought frequently into prominence before the student body. A lover of pleasure and gaiety she was not dis criminating in her choice of these things; experienced far beyond her years in certain phases of life, she had lost much of the sweetness and sim plicity which should belong to girl hood. “Sophisticated” might well de scribe her. What could there be in a meeting of Euodia girls to appeal to such as she? At first it seemed there was nothing. Flaunting a volume of “Nietzsche”, she one day declared her purpose to read this carefully as “one must know both sides of a question.” Continuing to attend the Bible study, she asserted her purpose was only for the “fun” she got out of it, and “to see what they will try to get me to do.” ’ The only thing urged upon her to do was to accept Jesus Christ as her Saviour. At the close of the class one day she sought the teacher’s side and whis pered a request, “Will you please pray for me this week?” The next week she came early to the class, asked for a moment of the teacher’s time and said, “Last night alone in my room at home, I took Christ as my Saviour and I now belong to Him.” Since that day have followed her words of testimony before the girls, her own attendance at the little “prayer hour” at school and an enthusiastic championship of her new Leader “in season and out of season.” There came also the moment of yielding to her Saviour her whole life, asking Him to use her, if He so wills,

in some special field of service for Himself. Let those who read pray for this girl and for every other dear school-girl who has taken her stand under the banner of Christ Jesus that Satan may be foiled in every attempt to divert these girls from their holy purpose, and that as Euodia girls not one shall fail to be steadfastly “frag rant for Christ.” Blessed Results from a Boys’ Bible Class At the June graduation of one of our high schools, eight of our “Nun- tius Club” boys were among the grad uates. It was a joy to the heart of the teacher of this particular club to know that in eight pockets reposed leather bound copies of the New Testament, presented to these boys at a banquet of the Club held just before the gradu ation night. One of the boys had not yet received Christ, and the teacher had been' very anxious about him for he was leaving soon to take his uni versity training in another state. A lit tle note went with each Testament, and this particular boy seemed deeply impressed with it, and sat turning it over and over in his hands during the speeches which followed the dinner. Leaving the room early to keep an appointment down town, he was fol lowed by th e ,teacher, and a word of invitation given him to settle the im portant question, to which he replied he would see her again before leaving, and he was invited then to Sunday dinner. After dinner was over, he re turned to the dining room and handed his hostess (the teacher of the Club) his signed acceptance of Christ. An other boy who is leaving the part of the city where the Club meets also handed his signed acceptance of Christ to the teacher at the last meet ing of the Club for the year. . One of our boys who moved to another state several months ago has been instrumental in organizing a boys’ Bible study club in the little town in which he is living, and has led at least six boys to Christ. 11 N,\!^ SEAMEN’S DEPARTMENT Claude H .
