LES HAWKS DE RETOUR SUR TERRE

Après avoir remporté 10 matchs de suite, les Hawks de Hawkesbury ont connu plus de difficultés cette semaine. Les hommes de Rick Dorval ont d’abord subi un revers en prolongation contre les Braves de Brockville (2-1), avant de dominer les Bears de Smiths Falls (6-1), pour finalement s’incliner devant les Lumber Kings de Pembroke (2-0). Après une première période sans but contre les Braves mardi dernier, ce sont les Hawks qui se sont inscrits au pointage les premiers lors d’un avantage numérique au début du deuxième vingt. William Gendron a fait vibrer les cordages pour la 12e fois de la saison, aidé par Jakson Kirk. Cependant, les Braves ont répliqué 10 minutes plus tard lorsque Justin Dauphinais a inscrit son 14e but de la saison sur une passe de Colin Elliott. Après une troisième période sans but, c’est finalement Thomas Haynes qui a donné la victoire à son équipe en prolongation en inscrivant le but décisif sur une passe de Luke Tchor. Bears 1 Hawks 6 Les Hawks se sont repris le lendemain en dominant les Bears de Smiths Falls durant toute la rencontre pour finalement l’emporter par la marque de 6-1. le deuxième but ayant été inscrit dans un filet désert à la fin de l’engagement. Les Hawks occupent présentement le deuxième rang de la division Yzerman dans la CCHL, 8 points derrière les Junior Senators d’Ottawa et 17 points devant les Grads de Navan.
VOLANT EAT COUGARS’ LUNCH, END THEIR PLAYOFF RUN

The Gatineau-Hull Volant ate the Vankleek Hill Cougars’ lunch during the last game of their best-of-five series on Friday, winning the game 5-2 and putting an end to their playoff run. The Volant took a 2-1 lead in the first period before adding two more unanswered goal in the second period to finally beat the Cougars 5-2. Sam Guay and Alexandre Saul scored the two markers for Vankleek Hill, while Brenden Easterbrook notched two assists and Zack Labbé added one of his own. Cougars’ Head Coach Franky Dopelha- mer is pretty disappointed with his team’s performance in the final game. “Honestly,” he said, “it was not a good game for us. Maybe there was nervousness on our part, but we didn’t show up during the biggest moment and there is no excuse for that. All the other games were nail-biters, but this time we were out-shot and out-played. We may have been a little unlucky – we hit the post like five times – but they were still the better team.” The way the final game played out made the ending of the Cougars’ playoff run more bitter than bittersweet: “It was a weird sea- son, but it was weird for everybody.” said Dopelhamer, “I was hoping we would play at least a couple of games over .500; I was hoping we would make it through the first round of the playoffs and get to the semi- finals, so I feel like we underperformed.” But the Cougars are a young team, and the fact that most of the team could be coming back next is a silver lining for the fans: “We are a very young team, especially

on defense. We’re only losing four 21-year- olds next year, so we have a solid foundation to build on if everyone decides to come back.” As far as the coaching staff, the situation will be re-evaluated during the off-season,
according to Dopelhamer: “I can’t guarantee that I’ll be back coaching the Cougars next year. We’ll sit down with management and evaluate the situation to figure out the best way to move forward.” But Dopelhamer would love to see a new generation of talent leading
the Cougars eventually: “The owners, we have sons who all love hockey and might be interested in taking over management duties eventually, and we would love to see them carry on the Cougars’ legacy.”
