and visitors can then go on a musical walking tour of the community as they check out the various live entertainment venues. The Third Annual Porchfest goes “on stage” July 21. Duff now has a volunteer organizing committee to help with registering musicians ready to play, and porches open for their performances, along with planning the festival venue schedule and working on promotion and other details. “One of the things we want to improve this year is signage and information booths, to help visitors know where to go at what times,” stated Duff. “As well, we want to maximize the usage of all of the porches offered, and of the musicians who are volunteering their time and energy for Porchfest.” Porchfest organizers hope to have more than 25 porch “stages” available for musi- cians during the day. They also hope to have
at least twice as many performers, either solo or groups. “Of course, you have multiple music acts playing at different times on one porch,” stated Duff. “So overall we should end up with over 50 musicians playing on July 21.” Filling the porches provided for Porchfest concerts is not expected to be a problem. “A lot of the bands who played last year have already said they want to come back for 2018,” added Duff. “And we’ve received enquiries on our Facebook page and web page from people who have heard about the event and want to know how they can sign up for this year.” Registration for musicians and homeown- ers offering their porches as temporary stag- es is available at www.porchfestvankleekhill. ca/registration/ or go to www.facebook.com/ vkhporchfest/ for help to register.

Registration is already open for both musicians and venues for this year’s Vankleek Hill Porchfest. “Porchfest has grown each of the three years we’ve held it,” stated Ken Duff, Porchfest founder. “This year we’ve had to start organizing earlier than ever due to the amount of enquiries we’ve already received from both musicians and those offering porches.” The Porchfest premise is simple. The cultural festival brings mini music concerts right into local neighbourhoods with willing homeowners offering their own front porches as the stage for a singer or a band. Residents
