Pioneer Museum’s Fall Festival

!e sun came out to shine on the annual Fall Festival at the Glengarry Pioneer Mu- seum inDunvegan, September 13, making organizers and visitors quite happy. Each year, thousands of visitors gather at the museum to take part in the annual Fall Festival.!e community comes together to put on an amazing day "lled with pioneer harvest demonstrations, a horse-drawn carriage parade, live music, pioneer craft demonstrations and a harvest tent "lled with preserves, local produce, baked goods and heritage plants. !e day included acti- vities for children with a petting zoo, games, demonstrations and treats. Jim Mullin from the Glengarry Light Infantry was on hand in period costume to let people know about the upcoming War of 1812 Re-enactment weekend.!ere were a few others dressed in period costume to make the day complete. Several artifacts were on display with some being interac- tive, giving kids of all ages a chance to touch history. Roosters were crowing in preparation for the crowing contest, and sheep were

lined up waiting for their turn to be shaved. George the miniature pig at the petting zoo was happy to say hello to passersby. !e Glengarry Pioneer Museum is made up of several nineteenth century log heritage buildings and artifacts.!e original building was once the MacIntosh Store in the 1840s and later became the Star Inn, a stagecoach stop in the 1860s. !e building is furnished in period pieces to re#ect this time period, and is believed to be one of the oldest in Eastern Ontario. !e next big event scheduled at the mu- seumwill be theWar of 1812 Re-enactment weekend scheduled for September 26 and 27, with cavalry demonstrations, a fashion show, battle re-enactments andmuchmore.

War of 1812 breakfast Everyone is welcome at the War of 1812 Community Breakfast, Saturday, September 26, from 7 to 10 a.m., at the Dunvegan Rec- reation Association Hall, 19053 County Road 24 in Dunvegan.
