Building supplies fraud scam warning

Le 3 septembre, des agents de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario, détachement de Russell, ont effectué une perquisition dans une résidence sur la Promenade Blue Jay à Clarence-Rockland. Les policiers ont, entre autres, saisi 63 plants de marijuana matures, deux petits plants de marijuana, 2110 grammes de marijuana hachée et des balances digitales. La valeur marchande de la drogue saisie est d’environ 65 000 dollars. Mark Bédard, âgé de 45 ans, de Clarence- Rockland, a été accusé de: production de marijuana, possession d’une substance il- licite destinée au trafic et possession d’une substance illicite L’inculpé devra se présenter à la cour de L’Orignal le 6 novembre.
A credit care scam targeting building ma- terials supply outfits in Lanark County may be on its way to other parts of East- ern Ontario. The OPP East Regional office has had an ongoing investigation since December 2012 of a group of thieves using stolen credit cards to bilk building supply compa- nies. The thieves phone in an order for various materials and offer a credit card number for payment. The number is valid and the con artists either collect the materials them- selves or sometimes hire a freight company to pick up the materials and deliver them to another address. In either case, the materials are picked up and taken away soon after the order is phoned in and accepted. By the time the building supply outfit gets a report back that the credit card is stolen or other com- promised, the materials are gone. Investigation continues and the OPP warn all construction supply companies and oth- er merchants to take care and make sure that a credit card is valid. Do not provide goods or services unless the actual card is presented on site for payment verification. If in doubt, ask for a secondary piece of I.D. Also check with credit card companies to make sure the card is valid. Anyone with information about this fraud or any local businesses who have been tar- geted or think they are a target are asked to contact their OPP detachment.

ST-ISIDORE | Police are asking for help solving a restaurant break-in. The Eliseanne Restaurant on Ste-Cath- erine Street in St-Isidore was burglarized overnight on Aug. 31. Some money was taken from the cash register. Anyone with information on the break-in can call Const.
