Not by anyone we know.” The UCPR manages the community for- est, with the assistance and cooperation of the South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC). But neither the counties nor the SNC had any plans for doing a controlled hunt on coyotes during the summer this year. “It didn’t make sense,” Prévost said. “This type of hunt is usually done in the fall.” Prévost traced the rumour of a cull to blog article in the Ottawa Sun’s online edi- tion of June 17. The blogger, Jeff Morrison,
who writes under the byline of “Outdoors- guy”, stated that his sources, which he did not name, reported a “controlled hunt” to reduce the number of coyotes in the Larose Forest was planned for the early summer. Morrison stated that the coyote cull would involve “at least two officials from the MNR, as well as other concerned members from the community of Bourget.” Morrison stated that details from his sources were “sketchy” but that the cull would involve several shifts of hunters, in- cluding some from the area, taking turns to drive through specific areas of the commu- nity forest to shoot any coyotes they see. Prévost contacted the regional office for
theMinistry of Natural Resources (MNR) and was told staff there had no plans for a coy- ote cull in the Larose Forest. As of the end of August, he still has no information about howwho was proposing a coyote cull in the Larose Forest or if it was just either a rumour or some kind of prank.
