MAJOR Finance HOMETOWN Medford, Wis. ORGANIZATION Taylor County Finance Department Medford, Wis. TITLE Finance/Accounting Intern
What I did: I did a variety of different but similar duties. The two foremost among these were accounting duties such as entering payables and making budget adjustments among other similar tasks. I also worked with the Finance director on creating Excel sheets and similar documents to help simplify some tasks as well as keep track of certain expenses. My main project that was for me was going around to all of the different county departments and meeting with them on how they will be affected by the county moving away from carryovers and what the future looks like for them after this change. I took note of which portions of their money had to be carried over by law and which of it could go back to the general fund. I also did some work with HR, most of which was concerning the billing and allocation of insurance. What I liked: I liked the number of different tasks I was able to do. I was able to work on tasks with both HR and the Finance director, and this gave me a wide range of different kinds of work. I also enjoyed the people that I worked with. I found them mostly to be helpful and willing to teach me. Lastly, I enjoyed the amount of freedom what I had with my work. I was able to work on tasks where I had oversight but I also had a say in what was the best way to go about them. An example of this was when I made Excel sheets that were able to project the next years expenses to make the process of budget creation much simpler. Future Dream Job: I do not have one at this time. I want a job in which I am both fulfilled and able to make a high enough income to live the life I desire.
