Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) case concerns a Hawkesbury OPP case, on May 1st, at about 1 a.m., when police were called to an apartment building on Abbott Street. The call concerned a 31-year-old man reported to be in distress.
Police entered the apartment unit and found a man on the unit balcony. SIU prelimi- nary investigation indicates police spoke to the man. At some point during the encounter between the officers and the man, a Taser device was used to subdue the man. The man’s heart stopped and he was not breathing after the Taser was used. CPR was performed and the man started breathing again. He was taken to hospital for further treatment. The SIU was then called in to do an inves- tigation of the circumstances surrounding the May 1st incident. The SIU preliminary case
stated that the man was still at the hospital on May 10, when he was pronounced dead. Further investigation of the incident conti- nues. The SIU requests that anyone who may have information related to the case to call toll-free at 1-800-787-8529 and ask to speak to the lead investigator of the case. The death of a man in Hawkesbury, early in May, is now under investigation.
L’Unité des enquêtes spéciales de l’Ontario (UES) enquête présentement à la suite d’un incident survenu le 1er mai, qui concerne la Police provinciale de Hawkesbury ainsi que l’utilisation du Taser pour maîtriser un homme. L’homme a été transporté à l’hôpital pour y être soigné à la suite de l’incident et son décès a été déclaré le 10 mai dernier.
