Director of Commercial, Residential & Campus Services Director, Campus Infrastructure & Operational Support Services Vice-Chancellor; members of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Group; Directors of Professional Services; Deans of Colleges; College Managers, members of Council and Senate.

Purpose of the role:

• Take leadership responsibility for ensuring that all aspects of commercial services, residential and campus services provision are responsive and well managed, establishing and responding to systematic customer feedback and market conditions. • Communicating the University and service’s objectives and ensuring that team members have a clear understanding of what is expected of them. • Ensuring whole-service commitment to the delivery of the Business Plan through effective performance management techniques and ensures that all staff undertake an annual Performance Development Review. • To maximise external earnings from services, improving asset value and supporting commercial operations. Managing a dynamic and increasing revenue budget/target of £10m per annum. • To fully represent the University’s views on all relevant issues on other campuses, including those in Cornwall. • Being an active member of the CIOSS Executive Group, contributing to institutional strategic planning and decision making. Acting as an expert advisor on matters relating to the running of the campus and its related services. • Representing the University externally in a professional and enthusiastic manner, continually promoting the University as a beacon of educational and research excellence. • Leading cross-University strategic projects, as required by the Director of CIOSS, Registrar and Vice Chancellor. • Responsible for ensuring that the University’s Health and Safety policies are fully understood and implemented across Commercial, Residential & Campus Services. • To actively participate in the Annual Performance Development Review Process. • To work with and actively support University policies and procedures. • Any other duties that may be appropriate to this role.

Reporting to:

To support the Director of CIOSS in creating a world class campus environment and services for the benefit of all stakeholders. Responsible for driving income and opportunity from across all area of responsibility including student accommodation, retail and catering and commercial leasing aspects across the University.

Commercial, Residential & Campus Services encompasses a range of services across the University for staff, students and visitors. There are more than 360 staff who work within the service across a multitude of areas. These areas include, but may not be limited to:

Main duties and accountabilities:

• Student Residences strategy and operations • Retail and Catering businesses • Event and Conference Management • Commercial leases and contracting • Facilities Management • Car Parking • Security • Portering and Transport

These will include:

• Providing leadership and direction to the Commercial, Residential & Campus Services department, reflecting the attributes and competencies expected of a senior manager within the University • Leading the development and delivery of the strategy for Commercial, Residential & Campus Services to achieve the required commercial and service provision outcomes to support the University’s strategic aims. • Bring a commercial, entrepreneurial and ambitious approach to the delivery of services, utilising effective operating models and focused on outstanding customer service. • Leading and motivating a large scale and diverse team of in-house staff, ranging from senior management through to operational team members • To ensure, at senior leadership level, the department provides excellent levels of customer service and effectively delivers the diverse range of services and income streams to the required standards. • Leading and ensuring a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence is embedded across all of the service. • Develop new and innovative delivery vehicles for commercial activities, including the establishment of mutually beneficial agreements with partner organisations.

The Director of Commercial, Residential and Campus Services will be responsible for leading the strategic and operational development of the University’s commercial services, driving income and value for the University which supports its academic vision as well as making a strong financial contribution to its budgets. The Director will shape and drive the University’s commercial assets to maximise and increase the year round returns from the estate and our commercially trading services, whilst leading a team to provide customer focused facilities and hospitality services that support world-class academic activities and exceptional student experience.
