COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

What has led to the reinvention of Oklahoma City? The simple answer is the citizens of Oklahoma City. This is a community where the citizens have decided to invest in themselves to recreate Oklahoma City not only for today but to set the stage for even more growth with future generations. Since the original MAPS (Metropolitan Area Projects) passed in 1993, Oklahoma City has an outstanding track record of passing initiatives that have completely rebuilt OKC’s quality of life and educational system and invested heavily into infrastructure, police and fire protection, job creation, the human needs of our citizens and more.

MAPS FOR KIDS Passed: 2001 Completed: 2022

Oklahoma City citizens routinely pass city bond issues to make sure the infrastructure needs of the growing city are met. Most recently, the Safer Streets, Better OKC initiative invested more than $1 billion in the city’s infrastructure needs and the additional hiring of more police officers and firefighters. In total, the package allowed for the hiring of 129 more police officers and 57 firefighters with an annual $26 million boost for public safety and day-to-day operations. The city continues to make progress on resurfacing roads, building sidewalks and bike lanes, and adding to the trail system thanks to the package passed by citizens in 2017. The 10-year bond package, also allowed the city to expand the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium and build new club houses at three of the city’s golf courses.

The "MAPS for Kids" school program includes hundreds of construction, transportation and technology projects -- all for the benefit of Oklahoma City's public school students.
