It was the perfect day. Laura Hartley and her soon-to-be husband Chris were nervous that it was going to rain. It was early September and the couple had their hearts set on getting married under the willow tree overlooking the pond. There was a contingency plan in place—the ceremony could be set up inside the basement of the barn if need be. But the rain held off. “Everything worked out just perfectly for us,” she said. The Hartley’s were married at The Hummingbird: Barn Wedding and Event Venue, a charming farm property with a fully restored, historic barn just south of Ospringe. The facility opened in 2025, and the Hartley’s were one of the couples married during its debut season. “They took a chance on us,” said Krystal Knowles, who bought the property with her husband in 2019. Since then, the pair have worked to restore the old bank barn on the site, built in 1874, transforming it into a rustic yet elegant wedding venue. “It’s such a beautiful, calming, energizing space,” said Knowles. “I’m so happy that it’s been restored, and it has original beams and everything.”
